Edinblog: Trilogy, The Bugle and BBC

Guess which one of these cool squares I just visited this morning?

There’s something brutal about waking up at 6am while in Edinburgh while you’re in Edinburgh Festival timezone. Not that I’ve been socialising particularly much, but even so, it’s been 2am bedtimes, so waking up early feels like someone’s done something very mean.

Today I’ll be doing The Bugle Live, though, so it’s probably good to get a jump start on the joke writing for that.

Monday was the (probably final) performance of The Trilogy in a little room, with a lovely warm audience.

One of the things I noticed about doing it to an audience of mostly three-ticket-holders was that I really didn’t feel like I had to be careful about Savage. I basically dropped most of the one liners out of that show and told it very raw and confrontingly, knowing that I had The Resistance and Empire to bring the light and then the nuanced shade. It’s not a way I’ve done it before, but I think it worked.

Now The Trilogy is available as a podcast to download and I feel very happy about that.

Yesterday’s show (Tuesday night) of ETHOS was a lot of fun, which I wasn’t sure it would be, given that Sunday night was definitely the hardest show of the whole run for me (and probably the audience). After my best friend’s wedding in the morning and the trilogy in the afternoon of Monday I thought I’d be completely wrung out, but I felt very good in ETHOS.

I think doing the trilogy reminded me that I’m decent at my job or something.

Now off to write Bugle jokes!

I've really enjoyed the trilogy so far! Very curious to see how the stories progress. It's a really unique balance of comedy but also thought-provoking. Also I woke up with that Elvis song in my head, your fault, I'm blaming you.
