A side effect
Added 2017-10-31 21:22:54 +0000 UTCWell, my sheltered childhood and uncool young- adulthood of not watching much TV is finally coming in handy.
Everyone’s all, “did you hear about X being a creep!?” And I’m like, “who?”
And then they explain it, and then I’m all like, “oh, I can see why that would be sad and confusing to have a part of your childhood shadowed with such unpleasantness”.
I find it depressing in a general way, because it confirms to me some ideas I have about access to power and human misery, but I imagine it’s a lot worse when you have a longstanding good opinion of someone or fondness for their work that you’ve generalised out into a good opinion of their character.
The #MeToo hashtag is ruining a lot of people’s pure memories of their childhood fandoms.
On the other hand, now people who have felt secure in their entitlement to the bodies or attentions of people below them on some hierarchy of power or ladder of experience are starting to feel the nibbles of fear, and that's a good thing.
