Fantasy Novels and Escapism

This week's SBS Comedy article, in which I reveal slightly too much about my inner life.

http://www.sbs.com.au/comedy/article/2017/03/17/four-fantasy-novel-archetypes-you-can-be-instead-yourself-when-life-gets-hard

Some thoughts on the article:
I always know when I'm stressed, because I find myself on my third novel of the day, some time past midnight debating "just one more chapter".

That level of escapism is probably marginally better for my health than an outright heroin problem, but not really better for my productivity or bank balance.

I can't really tell what the overall impact is on my mental health other than the vague flavour it gives to my day to day romantic dream scenarios, which end up with a slightly riding-boots-and-implacable-code-of-honour element to them.

Better escapism than some, worse than others I imagine. At least if I chose reality TV or PS4 or recreational drugs as my recreational drug of choice, I'd have something to talk about that was a common reference point.
