Day 13 Edinblog: Surprise Monday

Today I woke up feeling a bit the worse for wear - slightly sniffly from not enough sleep (that's a thing that happens to other people too, right?) and with my knee still bruised and sad.

But, Edinburgh being the contrarian that it is, turned out an incredibly gloriously blue day, and it was impossible to be mopey.

I got dressed and headed out to do a spot at the Late Nite Laughs at Lunch lineup show. I was meant to be doing a 10 minute spot, but ended up relaxing for about 4 minutes and doing about 6 in crowd and repair work, because there was a wasp in the tent, and there's nothing like a wasp for making slapstick comedy happen.

Then I went and hung out at the Abbatoir performer's bar. Daniel Sloss, Kai Humphries and Daniel Sloss' mum were there, and we had a nice chat. Today was Bec Hill's wedding, so there were a lot of comedians wandering around gorgeously attired in formalwear and kilts. It made me happy.

Then I went over to the Scottish Museum and watched Casting Call Woe, which is a hilarious and depressing show, based on the blog of the same name, about the casting calls that are put out for women.

Then I went and did a spot at the Cult of Comedy,  which was a very very staring and not laughing audience, which didn't bode well for the evening, but when I got to The Resistance, it was full up, and the crowd were absolutely lovely!

I think that because so many acts took their day off to go to Bec Hill's wedding, I must have picked up the leftovers.Tiff and Paul came to watch the show, and then took me out to dinner afterwards. The whole thing was delightful and made me feel a lot better than I did this morning.

Edinburgh, you changeable hussy.

Then I went and MC'd at the midnight show Sweet Release, and ushered in a sequence of increasingly surreal performances by excellent and weird acts to an extremely small and quiet but very goodnatured audience (who watches a midnight show on a Monday night?), and then came home to put up my podcast, do some admin and be in bed.

Man I need sleeps.
