Day 4 Edinblog: Overdrive

Today. Was. BUSY.

I woke up and then spent some time looking for my SD card which has my most recent podcasts on it, and I seem to have put it somewhere very clever and important.

Then I went over the bridge across to Newtown (the beautiful picture above), and did the Poetry Can F*ck Off show at The Stand. Which is to say, I didn't even do a comedy spot.  I read an actual poem. This one

Then I met up for a cup of tea with the excellent Aaron Kilkenny Fletcher, and had the one window of lovely relaxing for this Saturday. Then I dashed home to do some laundry and eat a sweet 4.30pm breakfast and do more looking for my bloody SD card, which must be in a very obvious place that I just haven't thought of.

From breakfast I dashed over to Grassmarket to do Sameena Zehra's Cult of Comedy show, which was lovely. From there, I dashed back to The Gilded Balloon to get my head in the game for The Resistance

Because someone told me I had Reviewers and Judges in the audience, I spent 45 minutes not worrying at all and being relaxed.

The show went well, in that I started a bit messily, and as a manifestation of the Saturday night party crowd, someone needed to do a wee, and ended up walking across the stage to get there, and then back when he came back. Also, I forgot the most important joke. But, the show went well, despite that. Which is actually an incredibly good feeling. Weeing man hugged me and said very nice things, and then I ran, banjo on shoulder to get to the Stand Up And Slam show.

The poets vs comedians vibe of Stand Up And Slam is always so much goofy fun, and I had a blast representing team comedy. When that finished, I dashed out and ran up the hill to do a spot at Ivor Dembina's Late Nite and Free lineup show at the City Cafe. By this time I had run out of flyers, so that was good promo for me.

I left the city cafe with an easy 45 minutes to get to the venue for MCing the excellent midnight cabaret and variety show The Sweet Release. 45 minutes was honestly too much, because I sat down and wasn't sure I wanted to get up again.

That was a long day, people. I don't know how I feel about reviewer being in tonight, looking back on it. It wasn't the best version of the show, but I still felt pretty happy with it. On the other hand, this particular publication gave me 5 stars last year, so there's literally nowhere to go but down.

Ah well. What is done is done. Let the chips fall where they may. (walking home late on a saturday night you see that the chips in Edinburgh mainly fall down the front-bosoms of inebriated people, sitting delicately in the gutter, eating fried things out of polystyrene containers.)

Chiz!
