At first I thought that maybe cinnamon was a stand-in for figurative blood, in the sense that she had been “biting her tongue” by not telling her partner how she felt, but now I think it’s just that perfect symbol of what the relationship is. It has duality to it, the sweet AND the bitter, because she does care for this person but there just hasn’t been that complete fulfillment yet, hence a bitterness.
