Sour Analysis- "Enough for You"

I blind-react to the seventh track of Sour: "Enough for You." During this reaction/analysis, I discuss the characterization of both the speaker and the subject. I also analyze Rodrigo's use of diction, alliteration and imagery. Moreover, I discuss some of the motifs I've identified so far throughout the album.:

Sour Analysis- "Enough for You"

The “Don't you think I loved you too much to be used and discarded? Don't you think I loved you too much to think I deserve nothing?” part reminds me of Taylor’s “Dear John”: “Don't you think I was too young to be messed with? (…) Don't you think nineteen is too young To be played by your dark twisted games, when I loved you so?”

Very interesting! It's definitely possible!

okay, call me crazy but I always thought there was an allusion to Hamilton in this song. "You always say I'm never satisfied...all I ever wanted was to be enough for you". These are two songs in Hamilton (Satisfied and That would be Enough) but the ideas are also repeated multiple times throughout the musical and the way Olivia presents it in this song always seemed similar to Hamilton, at least to me.

thank you!

Hi! Welcome back! We are currently analyzing the Sour album by Olivia Rodrigo! After this, the plan is to analyze Manic by Halsey ☺☺☺

Hi Kp, I used to be a member of the patron, but now I'm back! I hope you're doing good. What's going on with patron, what album are we analysing?

Your family sounds amazing ❤❤❤

English Teacher KP

Yes! Sometimes it's definitely best to walk away!

English Teacher KP

You dodged a bullet for sure! I'm sorry you had to go through that!

English Teacher KP

amazing analyzation, thank you so much!! hilarious that your mom chose Precious hahaha. my first breakup story was when i was 14, and my boyfriend at the time who was friends with my older brothers broke up with me for no apparent reason, and laughed it off with his other friends. i sobbed my heart out when i got home from school and my family asked what the problem was. i told them why i was crying, and the next day my mom let me have off of school since that was a Friday anyway. on the Monday, she drove me to school and instead of just dropping me off, she got out of the car and talked to him in front of everyone telling him off for breaking my heart. my older brothers ignored him at lunchtimes too. it was very very embarrassing to have the whole school know haha, but i'm grateful my family is so supportive and loving. that definitely helped me through it, and still now helps me through a lot of things.

Oooh yea this song reminds me a lot of a former friend. Always trying to mold myself to her expectations and standards but it was never! Quite! Enough! Glad Olivia came to the same conclusion I did, sometimes it’s best to walk away!

this song 😩 gets me every time!! as for breakup stories, my boyfriend in high school broke up with me (over text, from a different country) while i was on a school field trip to the holocaust museum. so i was a crying mess but everyone thought i was just very emotional about the museum haha. then in the next text he asked if i was okay with him hooking up with my friend with they were both in spain on spring break😬 i was devastated at the time but looking back i know that i dodged a bullet with that one

You are welcome! Thanks for watching!

I STILL get on my mom's case about the "Precious incident" 😭😂😭 Also, I'm so sorry that happened to you in high school! He sounds like he was pretty awful! And, yes, I totally agree with you about the " never satisfied" bit!

English Teacher KP

I'm sorry but I cackled at your mom choosing the movie Precious as a post-breakup comfort flick WHAT!! Honestly, I feel like no one's as brutal as hs boys. I remember being 17, thinking I was "in love" and then my first bf dumped me on the phone. And the whole time his friends were laughing in the background like "did you tell her yet?" The entire phone call lasted 1 minute, and I was DEVASTATED! Also, for the longest time I never really got what he meant by saying the speaker is "never satisfied". But, now I feel like because he wouldn't love her the way she wanted (compliment and reassure her) she probably told him she needed those things. And he probably said whatever he does is "never enough" and she's "never satisfied" instead of actually trying. And if Sabrina Carpenter's new album is any indication, truly nothing was enough for him 👀

Thanks KP :)
