Developing a new concept

Hey guys. For the past two weeks I've been stuck in hotel quarantine, so I've taken the time to experiement and flesh out a new concept. I really like the look of classic stop motion, like in Beetlejuice, or the original King Kong. The janky pose to pose action has a raw charm to it.

You can see a test video here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zieXm0Aib-E

It was shot on my phone under the overhead bathroom lighting.

I'm weighing up whether to develop this into a new fully fledged character like Nox, or just submitting it as is and just rolling with the raw experimental aspect and seeing where it goes. Let me know your reactions, it'll help me decide what to do with it :)

On the Nox front, I'm finishing up a big project, which is a collaboration with someone many of you will know. Your support so far has helped me to invest in some high end camera gear and lenses. You might have noticed a sharper image in the last two Nox releases. I'm also setting up a dedicated space to leave a green screen and set perminently available. Production has gotten so much faster lately, it's pretty encouraging thinking about the opportunity after the release of the next big Nox video.

On the Patreon front, I'm still deciding what this space is going to be. What's the best way to entice viewers when I launch? Is there demand for people to see real me? Or do they want to interact with Nox? Should the Behind The Scened be geard towards creatives, or more broadly the general public? Potentially the most lucritive options are the tried and true reward tiers; a credit at the end of the video and access to private discord.  Part of me thinks it could be fun to develop a psuedo cult on here, for playful and villainous online shenanigans. But I dunno, that could go sidewise. Lots of things to weigh up, let me know what you're interested to see.

Again, thank you to you all for the ongoign support. I know these updates are infrequent on here currently, so I doubly appreciate it. The ongoing monthly payments has taken the edge off considerably. It's a load off knowing that my creative work is no longer dragging my bank accounts into the red. You've helped to lay the foundations. It's given me a lot of leeway to plan for the next phase of Nox.

Def love your stuff. If you need any help with backgrounds or random busy work, I'm down to lend a hand. My reel is kinda meh though https://vimeo.com/seoulfilmclub

You’re the reason I made a Patreon account.

I am some what late I think But over all just keep making cool crazy stuff :P what more can one ask?

Red Blaze

Do whatever you want, you beautiful, weird motherfucker. video looks great.

With regard to the "new" character in the vid, if you are going to flesh him out he needs to be pretty distinct from Nox. Maybe they can be complete opposites that compliment each other.

I see why you're having a hard time deciding where to take this Patreon thing. But if you can't decide which way to take it, you could make it Tier based. If someone is interested in Nox, they would get access to a Discord, and get "Nox Themed" Updates. That would be on the lowest Tier. People like me, who are also interested in the process of it all, could support on a higher Tier and see more of you, and everything happening behind the scenes. That way this Patreon would have multiple Layers, that can exist somewhat separated from each other, depending on what you want to see. That is not that far off from what other content creators are doing, but it's still somewhat special I think. That way you can also see what kind of content gets the most support and see what aspect is the most fun for you. I would be totally on board for a crazy Patreon experiment, but I would also see why you would want to play it a bit more safely. Anyway, really love your work and will continue supporting you, no matter where you decide to take this.

Kiwi Fruit is so cool. With them being cast in shadows and the stop motion movement and the mood, it feels so different and kinda creepy compared to your regular content, while still morbidly silly. I feel like they'd have to be a different characters, with Kiwi being stop motion, and Nox being more SFM-esque. Of course, as commented above, look after yourself first, but I'd love to see more. I'd like seeing your creative process. Your vids are so unique compared to anyone else's, I'd love to see what goes into them. But, of course, no stress. You do what's easiest and most stress free for you.

It's such a nice experience to watch an unique artist growing like he deserves to ^-^ Keep going! We will be here, supporting your art.

I really like it! The eerie and dark setting is amazing! One thing that would tie it all together (in my opinion) is to add some film grain on the still images, or perhaps add more film grain to mask when a still image is showing Overall I like it and cant wait to see some more!

I really enjoy getting to see the "creator" side of artists through Patreon. Like the behind the scenes boring technical stuff about experimenting with different techniques/mediums/etc. How the sausage is made. Plus i think it sounds stressful for Patreon content to be all... content-y. I can't speak for everyone else, but I'm here to support the creator behind the cool stuff without any extra production stress! ❤️

This is awesome feedback I second this

Yo this is so sick. Freaking mint animations my guy. I really enjoy your work. The way your lip stayed still while pulling out the kabob stick was very spooky and cool. I'd love to see my name at the end of videos, that would make me feel cool. I respect the Patreon purely being a support your work reward but I will watch the crap out of anything else you provide. Weekly Livestreams like Lixian does would be kind of dope.

Thank you :)

Luckily, I'm sticking to the live-action acting technique for a psuedo stop motion look. Yeah real stop motion is crazy hard work. Thinking i might see if i can makeup my face to look like plasticine. Thanks for the feedback :)

Ok so I’m terms of stop motion, it would be awesome to see it fleshed out but make sure it doesn’t interfere with your other work and life in general. I’ve dabbled in some stop motion and it’s a bitch. So whatever seems best for you. Just make sure to put yourself first. For Patreon, I like the idea of it being kept as a Behind he scenes/creative type thing. But if we’re talking interaction then maybe a discord would be a good place for that. Then you can have both while separating them as to keep things organized. Patreon for behind the scenes and discord for more audience interaction. As for the big project coming up, good luck. I’m sure it’ll be a SmAshING good time. But seriously, good luck and don’t stress any of this stuff. You’ve kind of already got a cult going on here. HaHa!

Sorry to hear you’re locked up but glad you got to experiment with this concept. I love the concept and your take on it. I’m interested in seeing more and what you can do with it. Love that you have a Nox video in the works. Can’t wait to see it! Patreon is how I can support you by avoiding that pesky YouTube algorithm. Honestly, if all I get are more videos, I don’t mind supporting you. That said, others might want rewards but it’s like you said, the tried and true methods tend to work. Good luck and keep up the great work!
