Belated thank you <3

Hey everyone, just want to give a huge thanks to everyone who's come on board to help me out so far! I know this is super minimal as far as a patreon goes, so I super appreciate all the pledges you've given me.

As far as my master plan goes, I'll be doing a proper push for monetization in the future, once all my social media has enough traction. I've got big plans to expand Nox into something much larger.  In the meantime, you're all helping me out a tonne.

I've had some people asking about behind the scenes stuff, and I just want to know: Are you interested in it from a highly technical perspective (ie: what plugins, software specifics). Or more from a 'general' sense, as you would see in say, a DVD bonus feature?

Thanks again everyone!

What software does he use .

E.i The Car Guy

A mockumentary would be cool, I suppose many people are interested in how the Nox gets put in the Vids. You know, cool slang for the Kids. Wait no scratch that, that sounds wr-

Charlie Ryan

Absolutely

Brooklyn

I really love to know the deep and dirty stuff of how you make it all awesome, beside being you that we have on way to get to :P But honstly thanks for the great stuff

Red Blaze

i would be interested in the technicals, god its so good.

Flex

Tbh.. I almost don't want to know. A magician never reveals their tricks, right? It would be cool to know, but I mustn't!!!

Emilyyy

Oh, pee pee pants. What a name

Emilyyy

I'd agree with tutorials being like cooking shows. Right now your character is incredibly mysterious and that has a strong impact on the overall tone. If I were you, I'd create another persona or ask a friend to do a character and keep the comedy high if you did bts. Maybe you could expand on the break up with adobe bit and teach/tutorial videos on problems you encounter. Stuff like dynamic linking and how much you avoid it. It looks like you're using Unreal as well? Which has definitely made it's way into the A/V industry. I tend to have a big problem moving from program to program and seeing that pipe line process would be interesting and maybe a good poop joke. But Overall, I don't think you need a bts thing. Unless it's a skit like the adobe break up, which is awesome.

Artifex Rex

discord with a weekly "we do a thing together" would be cool. Like Thursday night movies or something idk.

Pee Pee Pants

I honestly would prefer the generic bts stuff.

Willo

Behind the scenes would be awesome! Generic stuff would be great

J Lynn

I'm just here to support what you already do, I don't need anything extra

Roscoe

If I could learn just one small thing to help simply make some family videos look better, I'd really like to learn from someone with your skills.

Simon (game name - Ironhammer)

It would be really cool to see the specifics of how you make your videos. Such as a walkthrough from filming to editing to animating

SmallFry.png

It could be cool to learn more about your influences (what has influenced you in your life that has made you creating these animations in this particular animation and artistic style). :)

Tabascofanatikerin

In my personal opinion, you have a unique style of making your video. I don't do VFX and special effect but I'm highly curious on a technical explenation. PS : Keep going your awesome work

TheFrenchtopus

As a vfx dude myself (without the artistic merit), I'm super intrigued by your techniques, and I'd be all over it for sure. But then again: The Nox character cannot work outside of its own world, which is crafted to mindspinning perfection. I don't wanna see the process disected, it breaks the artistic value of this body of work. Let's be honest: Especially since Covid, the youtubes are flooded with CG tutorials, but from what I see, they work just like cooking shows for a technically inclined special interest group (and I'm including myself here. I watch a lot of stuff, for professional reasons alone, but instead of "doing" a tutorial, the mind is perfectly satisfied with merely dreaming about it, allthewhile pretending it's taking notes for actual eventualities). Anyone who's seriously interested in how your stuff is done will find out about it, it just takes time and research. As for the artistic process itself: Sure it's always inspiring to see how artists find and follow their voice, but hey: In the end we all have an idea how an artist goes about their stuff. If you present your whole process, I figure that it's gonna be watched like any other random "inspiring" video of artistic processes (and "tutorial" for that matter), which is: being wowed in an entertaining fashion for the time being, and then forget about it - since the next video in the feed nurtures just the same interest. It really doesn't matter if it's cooking shows, the science channel, vfx tutorials, TED talks and whatnot. I mean: yes, occasionally I do cook that darn dish, and the contents of a TED talk do manifest somewhat, sometimes... but in the end, it's just a passtime. There's just too much stuff out there to get "inspired" by, but not a lot of stuff that remains truly mesmerizing and enticing. Here's a personal example from another field: I discovered Stephen Colbert like ten years ago, and since I'm German and didn't have the cultural insights yet, it took me literally years to figure out the Colbert character. He was so well crafted that even the Americans asked themselves, before Colbert took over the Late Show, who this "Stephen Colbert" really is, and how he is in real life. That's the power of one perfect art package. Sure he gave interviews here and there before that, but they were so scarce, that they just added up to the enigma. We as fans don't have to know everything, is what I'm saying. Sure we WANT to know everything, but (speaking for myself) the more I'm served, the more it gets lost in all the usual buzz. For example: I used to binge on the Corridor Crew, but it happened as they said it themselves: If you're not keeping up with the buzz, people will forget about you instantly when you miss your cue for some reason. You wouldn't want to be in the same ball park with your body of work, would you? I mean, if it really was your thing, your channel would exemplify that by now. There's a gazillion of channels out there that do just that, so stay unique and let your art do the talking is what I'm aiming at here. I'd rather wait for six months and get excited like a little boy for some two new minutes with Nox (or any other of your series), than seeing how it's all done, going "woah", and then move on. I've had plenty of that, which is way i'm such a big fan of you in the first place. In fact, I was so stoked to find out that Patreon has been more of an afterthought for you (at best), initially expecting (and wishing you) like a million of patreons. All of these intriguing aspects add up, man. To cut it short (as it's about time): Like probably any other fan, I'd watch your videos on editing 'n stuff. In the end, I still gotta admit it's useless information though - and I say this as a twenty year-long avid and passionate editor myself who still welcomes tips and techniques on all fronts. I say, you have such a stonghold with your art world that it's totally worth letting it play out as it does. Admittedly, I want your work to get funded (big time), so I see the necessity to sell some insights, even at the expense of breaking the fourth wall, so to speak. But maybe there are other options out there that expand your world as opposed to breaking it apart. A Kickstarter campaign run by Nox would be friggin awesome, for example. Are you aware of Ami Yamato's channel, by the way? Please make sure to check it out, plus her Patreon page. This is the artistic realm I place you in. Be bold man, you earned it.

The Nout

Yea, if possible, everything you feel like showing to give us a little sneak peak would be awesome :) And no rush in any way. Like MyDogCarla said so well. We are all here to support you man.

Andreas Hyttsten

Also more technical stuff. like editing, how you do your frame rate effect and what programes you use :)

paula birrell

Any of that sounds good, I'm here for the support and hope you can thrive and make more content! :)

MyDogCarla

I'd be really interested in the whole technical process

Jaden

I would be more interested in a technical perspective, you have such a unique style, what are you issuances, Sin City?

Shawy animation

I'm really interested in seeing the entire process from recording the footage to editing with that crisp framerate you always use on yourself. Can't wait to see it!

Stanley

I would love a basic technical tour of the process, but whatever you feel like doing is fine dude. cheers.

Pollito Estelar

i would like to see some of your creative process! :D a bts would be rly cool

Cracker Borealis

love your work man, super inspiring. also i recommend creating a discord server, its a great way to bring the community together and chat with your fans. you can have private channels for patreons and sponsors, you can have a bot announce your latest videos for you. you can even post behind the scenes stuff on there too Speaking of that it would be great if you show us some of the behind the scenes stuff. Im an editor so im into all the behind the scenes stuff. You got my support. you are one of the best editors iv seen!

Ando

A Behind the Scenes would be cool! I always wondered how you do your editing and/or compositions in your videos/animations would look like in terms of layering the frames, effects, music, sfx, voices, and all the other nice technical stuff. I find your editing or how you do your animations in general intriguing and I'm always in awe how it goes so well when it plays out. I always assumed you would sketch out the NOX videos as well in a storyboard/comic and then you would do the rest. I do have a question on which you do 1st, the live-action recording or the drawing everything? Remarkable as always James, keep up the good work! ✌🏻💜

Shikabane

What else can I add, I'm in agreeance with everyone here!

Kal'dos

Behind the scenes from a technical perspective would be great! I'm a freelance motion designer / compositor so any tips and tricks on how you achieve a certain effect or visual style would be super handy and informative. DVD bonus features were the BEST! They’re the reason I wanted to work in the creative industry. I'd watch every 'Making Of' featurette on all my DVD's. The information I'd pick-up from them would make for excellent social ice-breakers.. Like did you know during the filming of Jaws 2, a camera operator had to mount a horse saddle fitted to the mechanical shark to capture “over the shoulder” shots from behind the shark? Imagine being that guy! Yee-haw!! Thanks for the “smashing” content and keep it up!

Jordan Siddall

I'd throw money at a behind the scenes look on your setup/before and after edits , technical perspective (some of which you've already mentioned tidbits of in comments on IG), and where you draw inspiration from. My friends and I eat up every one of your Nox videos. Personally I seriously can't get enough of his personification paired with your art style.

Ashley W

DVD bonus overviews would be good, sometimes going into depth but mostly just pulling back the curtain to show some techniques or setups to show techniques used or little silly tidbits. Second camera BTS shots of you filming greenscreen stuff also would be cool 🤔

Lochie Axon

DVD bonus feature sounds great haha. I want to know how you pull off that G-Dang Glasses effect. And what the acting looks like without edits lol. You must predetermine how to move your mouth for certain words right? I love your videos, I've never seen anything like them. I found your channel through the Markiplier video "youtube just gave me a strike"

JimineyBob

Super interested in behind the scenes. Not sure how technical I'd go with it off the bat, maybe feel it out first?

WhiteZero

I think it would be really nice to see any collectibles and media that you surround yourself with! It would be interesting to see where your drawing your inspiration from.

Mighty Caesar

Hell yeah, behind the scenes and bonus stuff would be so awesome to see. Your animation, your style in general is just phenomenal. It would be more than great to see all the behind the scenes stuff

LarzTheQuartz

I would love some behind the scenes/bonus feature stuff. I’m sure others would as well. I’m looking into animation and to get an insiders perspective would be really cool.
