But I'm just about to complete Chapter 8 of my fantasy WIP. π This week I've had to research how to dress a rabbit for eating around a campfire. On a semi-related note, here's a random snippet from my current draft:
A branch snapped.
[Redacted] froze. He shifted his foot, but felt no twig. That hadn't been him, but it had been close. Perhaps the wind? Except there was no wind, not beneath these thickly twined branches. All was hushed and quiet. The back of [Redacted]'s neck prickled. Perhaps it had just been a rottenβ
A tiny noise made him jump.
He gasped as his heart tried to run away without him. It took a moment before his fogged mind made sense of it. A kitten. The noise had been the harmless mew of a kitten. He stood there, his breathing labored and his hand clutched over his chest.
" 'Twas naught but a cat," he muttered.
