"I never watched Pulp Fiction".
Ok, help me understand something - do you girls just prefer TV shows over movies because you like long story format or is it just a coincidence that you never watched some of the most popular movies ever? Because apart from Pulp Fiction both of you mentioned never having watched some other super popular movies as well. I can't remember exactly which you mentioned, but there were many.
I think it would be fantastic to watch you two react to movies as well, Pulp Fiction could be a great start.

I think a thing that happens later in the show (no spoilers!) essentially textually confirms this. in my mind anyway.

LOLA DIDN'T EVEN FINISH DARK??? 💀💀💀 when you start running low on long shows you should definitely consider doing it, it'll probably be in years too where Lola has forgot more and we can enjoy Lola knowing and Milena not knowing what's coming. And then the ending, which neither has seen.

Never thought about that play on words. Certainly the ideology was evident, but I like the idea of that easter egg.

That's an interesting concept that you can't separate people from memories because the feeling would persist. This is why babies have started to be anesthetized for procedures like circumcision because those feelings of fear and trauma can persist deep within the subconscious even though when they grow up, the babies can't remember the event itself.

Sadly child labor is on the rise
https://tinyurl.com/Child-labor-laws-under-attack
Public education is under attack in various ways across every US state, while industry-backed groups undermine federal protection for minors in the workforce. Bills to lower the age and pay of minors while extending their work hours and permitting them to work in hazardous conditions have been introduced or passed in multiple states
In my home state of North Carolina, the GOP nominee for Superintendent of Public Schools is an anti-vaxxer and January 6th attendee who HAS CALLED FOR EXECUTION OF POLITICIANS**. She wants to privatize public education, claiming, "our children are being brainwashed into becoming queer feminists who support pedophilia." Privatization of education could lead the state to advocate for the revocation of child labor protection laws, which would disproportionately affect Black, Brown, and migrant children
North Carolina is ranked 48th in per pupil spending and last in overall school funding support. Unlike other states teachers with master's degrees or higher aren't receiving salary raises in public schools. We are one of the few states that allows teachers to pool sick leave days, many are giving up their own sick days to help colleagues. Recently, my hometown experienced class cancellations due to multiple strikes by school staff. Teachers are leaving the state in droves
** https://rb.gy/58c73q
*Lobbyists stoke the culture war -> Voters vote against their best interests -> Public Education is deemphasized -> Employment becomes a necessity but is romanticized -> Corporations receive compliant, inexpensive labor from young workers with no autonomy

The funniest thing, or even ironic, is that a company like Apple addresses this type of subject so well in a show, when it itself is one of those that represents this "evil" in society

yes lol, they will probably never admit it clearly. but knowing the basics of what Marx defended, you can see that it is basically what the show tells us

Has there been anyone who's worked on the show that's said that? ...Probably not lol, no way a showrunner would admit something like that.
I can definitely see it

the show is based on Karl Marx's theory about the alienation of work that occurs to the individual in the capitalist world, simply brilliant how the direction approached the subject

You mentioned the Wells Fargo news story of the employee dying and not being found for 4 days. I live within walking distance of that building. That was a crazy story. Wells Fargo is the worst of the worst when it comes to corporate scuminess. Their management pushed a truly massive fake accounts scheme to generate fradulent fees. They are one of a few companies I boycott.

Obviously it's a sci-fi thing and you have to suspend your disbelief a bit, but I like comparing severance to retrograde amnesia, you still have all your skills and generic memories like using a computer and knowing what the states are but you lose all your personal memories and connections.
On "why the really old computers", it's somewhat unclear what time this show takes place in, Petey has a pretty old phone but he might've intentionally bought one that couldn't be tracked, but IIRC nobody has a smart phone. I would guess this show is late 90's to early 2000s, which would explain the old computers.
Another thing is that because all their workers are severed, Lumen can cut costs and get the shittiest computers they want, their workers wouldn't know anyway. You can basically make your working conditions as crappy as you want and the workers won't know that it's crappy because they have nothing to compare it to, and they have no recourse either way.

I think the most important question people should ask themselves when it comes to this series is "does Mr. Milchick get paid enough?"
The man is (creepily) everywhere at all times, makes sure to (creepily) keep his smile all the time, makes everyone feel (creepily) welcomed in the company with parties, etc... Honestly we don't think about his paycheck enough. Does it truly reflect the amount of labour he does? I can't stop thinking about it
