That part was in the manga and it actually takes part just before this episode that they watched but got moved forward to the first season because it fit the theme of that episode.

That whole half of the episode is just the anime studio wanting to fill up the episode so they didnt have to slow down the pacing of the entire season too much. But it was their bad attempt at comedy, so the manga creator didnt make reigen do that so its not canon.
