Thank You for 2019 - End of the Year Update

When I began this Patreon it was so that I could explore photography more in depth and use it in a way to help others. I never would have started it if it weren’t for the encouragement of friends, colleagues, and fans.

Nine months ago I never imagined that I would be working on films and developing a cinematography reel. A large part of that is due to this Patreon, to you. I am hungry and craving to tell stories behind a camera. I want to create moving pictures that weave together compelling imagery about human connections and emotions. I want to see more people who look like me on screen. I want to tell their stories. I want to see more LGBTQ representation in cinema. I want to make those films.

Thank you so much for awakening something in me. I was in a dark place in the beginning of 2019, and now I feel like I’m in the open skies again. I feel a sense of drive and motivation that I haven’t felt in quite some time. Some of you started following me for illustration, concept art, or Magic the Gathering, and I am forever grateful that you would want support me on this cinematography journey. Even though we’ve never met: from the bottom of my heart, thank you for supporting me this year. I feel so much better now because of it.

While Patreon has grown, it still isn’t enough to self-fund independent film projects. It’s part of the reason I took a full time in-studio job again, so I can put away savings for future projects, equipment, crew, and so on. With the sheer expenses of the film industry, it would not have been sustainable for me to be on a freelance income while self-funding film projects and education.

With a full time job and filmmaking, I’ve been thinking about how to be sustainable on Patreon while still providing quality content to those who wish to support my films. I still won’t be changing any Tier rewards, as I still feel like I can manage a schedule, however I would like to provide more photography and cinematography content this year. This will include going over gear, camera techniques that I’ve promised before, software I use, and I would also like to add film and cinema history analysis, so that we can all learn together.

I hope that you all enjoyed the various tutorials, write-ups, reference library, enamel pins, wallpapers, polaroids, Instagram stories, previews, convention merchandise advances, and sneak peaks over the year. I truly hope being here has been worth your while. I hope you can stay as long as you can., and I’m so excited to show you my films and what you’ve contributed to. Thank you.

Jenn
