Sex is a Privilege, Not a Right

Having a sense of entitlement is a lot like living with an alien growing out of your forehead. We can all see it, even if you can’t. You should probably consider looking in a mirror, but you never do because you legitimately believe your own hype: That women owe you their bodies; That you’re entitled to a minimum amount of sex in this life; That if you don’t get that minimum, it’s an injustice humankind as perpetrated against you.

None of those things are true, forehead alien. We all get as many dealbreakers as we want, and if they apply to you, you’re not getting access to our bodies. *This*, friend, is how the world works. Nobody is entitled to a shag, not even when it’s Friday night and you really, really think she’s sexy… Not even if she swiped right… Not even if you insisted on paying the dinner bill.

Sex and romance are privileges, not rights. If you *believe* they’re rights, we can all see the alien growing out of your forehead, so you’ll get even less sex and love than you would have otherwise. Women learn to spot forehead creatures high school. We see you. We know you think of us as debtors who owe you a weekly payment, so we keep our purses sealed up tight in your presence.

The trouble with debts is that you’ve got to actually borrow something to owe it, and Susan the internet stranger didn’t take out a loan. She’s just happily going about her day, possibly searching for a man without an alien in his forehead.

You, too, swipe left on people you aren’t interested in. Brace yourself. Women get to swipe left, too. Men even swipe left on us. Some of us seem to get no interest at all. We must all face rejection. This experience isn’t unique to you. You’re just the only one responding toxically to the situation, so it’s easy to assume you’re alone in this.

You aren’t.

And since sex is a privilege, not a right, the only way out of perpetual celibacy is to identify the alien in your forehead. You might as well buy a mirror because the rest of us can see you clear and true.
