This is not a post

I always feel the need to tell you when a post is not really a post so you'll make room for my shitty, lazy writing. I learned some interesting things yesterday and thought some of you might be interested. As you know, I've had a stalker for two years. Someone sent me a swathe of smear posts two days back, and Fet issued what must be his sixth or seventh time out. Frustrated, I sent a message to Fetlife asking why they hadn't banned him yet. Here's what I learned:

My stalker has been put on a six-month time-out. This is a diversion from their usual maximum of one month. IP bans only work for 24 hours, so Fetlife is exploring ways to retain data and address sock puppets more easily. When someone is perma-banned, their entire profile vanishes, along with all the semantics of their abuse.

Fetlife wants to keep these kinds of people on the site while simultaneously keeping them inactive. They're also actively collecting information on sock puppets.

The more data they have, the better they can be prosecuted. The more they have, the easier it will be for caretakers to identify the semantics of their speech.

This is an experimental thing. They might ultimately execute a permaban.

There has been some very good news.

- As this is an edge case, the caretakers have given me a point of contact who will discuss every action they take with me.

- I have a coordinator who is keeping detailed information on my case.

- They have a thick file on this restraining order, so I can go to the police with the case. There is enough evidence there to support a charge.

- My stalker hasn't been particularly careful about hiding his identity, so the IPs are there to support a charge.

I feel a lot more peaceful about this situation. It's good to get a better understanding of their reasoning.

Thankyou for sharing this. It is a comfort to know things aren’t as bad as I thought.

They really seem to be getting better and better.

That is awesome. Glad that Fetlife did the right thing for once. (And yes, fortunately people are very bad at hiding their IPs)
