And this, right here, is the difference between a beginner writer and an experienced writer. A beginner writer tends to like giving their protagonist advantages and make their life better anywhere they can. An experienced writer will jump at every chance they get to make their protagonist's life worse, knowing it makes for a more interesting story that way.
