Griffin Village animation - General announcment and progress
Added 2019-04-11 10:28:53 +0000 UTCHello there!
I'm working hard on my next big animation, sorry for radio silence, but I didn't want to spoil too much without having some essential groundwork laid down first.
As some of you might've known, Griffin Village has been sort of my "magnum opus" that I've been passively developing in the background in past years.
It basically started off, in late 2015 when I noticed that one of my most favorite JackleApp's song Griffin Village - Summer, had no animation dedicated to it, so I took the initiative to make something
First version
So this was the beginning, as I kept working on this, I progressively became better and better, This project could actually be associated to my first transition into animation world.
Everything was inspired by the song, the kind of futuristic visuals, the seaside utopian city, the atmosphere and little story going on between Lyra, Bon Bon and Jackleapp's griffon. I simply took in the music and expressed visuals that most accurately reflected it.
But as I kept working on this, the scale and quality of it would grow out of hand, leading to next chapter.
The reinvention
After first revision and some exclusive showcase and critique seeking to some of my friends, I wasn't satisfied with the results. I decided to go straight back to the drawing board and do it properly this time.
This was between 2016-2018. I re-planned the city, refined architecture, made a ton of concept art and visual development. I also abandoned idea of doing this exclusively in Photoshop so I also started prodding other possible alternatives where I could animate this in a 3D environment that could allow me to achieve my vision, that alternative being the Blender 3D.
During second half of 2018 I started the second (and hopefully final) version of the animation, redoing entire story from scratch, in order to tell a better story and improve cinematography of shots and animation.
The Version two
And this is where we are now. Its been almost 4 years since its initial conception, I've made numerous animation side projects to hone and test my skills, and finally, with the execution of my last animation (The Forest) I feel confident enough with 3D to actually make this into reality.
My big wish and objective is to finish this before August, where (and this may be exciting news for some people) I would premiere at the Bronycon 2019.
This will be my love letter and ode to brony community in general, for completely changing direction of my life and turning me into the artist I am today. This is a big deal for me, its something that will come from bottom of my heart and hopefully will make you remember the nostalgic feelings of the first time that ponies made this crazy and positive impact on your life :3
Wrapping up this post, since is already too long, I'll finish it on both links with animatic and 3D block in. If you prefer not to get spoiled on the story, don't watch these.
This was more of the introduction post, on next ones I'll be sharing a bit more in depth updates related to production steps that I'm currently working on.
To my Celestial committee and Easter egg tiered patrons, I'll be coming back to you eventually to maybe incorporate somehow into animation (bg crowds, easter-egg objects, etc etc)
Anyway, thank you guys for patience and support, I'm very excited for what's coming :3
This is definetely gonna be something grand
