Hi patrons,
While I work on a double-page SuperButch spread (and try not to lose entire days finding cool but off-topic photos on Shorpy) I've also been doodling in my sketchbook. I've been using Handbook sketchbooks since my cruise ship days because they're a comfy size and have a clear plastic pocket in the back for postcards, stamps, train tickets, etc.
Naomi and I worked together on the "eggnog with espresso" drawing. It started when a friend tweeted about their delicious drink. Then I did the initial sketch, Naomi drew the cross-hatching and fabric folds, and otherwise I forget who did what.
The next sketches were prompted by podcast episodes: You Are Good covering "Newsies," and the You're Wrong About episode[s] on Karen Carpenter:

This is my second batch of airplane doodles in two months! That wasn't unusual in the Before Times, but I haven't done that much traveling that close together since spring 2019.
Naomi and I went to LA to visit her parents, and we took a really early flight:

(Seriously, that person's coat and hat were exactly the right colors for "Paddington"!

At the COVID testing place:

It remains a mystery--an expensive, stressful mystery--but it appears to have been a false positive. Otherwise we had a great time in LA!

I went to a theater as an audience member for the first time in awhile, and I had this moment of panic during Act I:

Hourly comic day! In which cartoonists record every waking hour of their February 1st, and hopefully don't stress out about whether "everybody" "drew better" and is "more prolific" than you :p

That overpass over NE Columbia is truly the best of times and the worst of times...

Yes, the mannequin was in a different place when I went to lock up. Someone put a cloth mask on her a year or two ago, so I accidentally drew her masked.

The aforementioned pasta started with this recipe but also included bacon and caramelized onions. Naomi was still in LA, so I used the alone-time to watch scary movies with housemates and eat very non-vegetarian meals. The pasta was great, but if the recipe says "My husband and kids love when I make this recipe" and you make it just for yourself, you'll be eating pasta for a very long time!
