Here's the Issue Six Cover!

I was a little intimidated about doing the Jackie Ormes sketch using old-school nib pens, especially while trying to imitate a cartoonist who was well-versed with that tool.

Also, I felt like I'd been in the middle of this cover for so long, it was some kind of crime against Art if it doesn't look better than I can possibly draw it, which obviously didn't help me get it done. So much of being an artist is not psyching yourself out.

But I borrowed a few nib pens from my partner Naomi. I printed two blue-line copies of the cover so that I could have a no-pressure practice round.

There was a learning curve, specifically with regard to smudging with the side of my hand. After awhile it was really fun, though! I loved how I could get a broad swoopy line with not a lot of pressure! I definitely want to play around again with those pens.

And since you're probably super curious, here's what I was looking at while doing the wood paneling on the wall:
