Added 2020-08-22 22:09:44 +0000 UTCThanks again for your patience with this page! I spent about 8 hours this week standing on a sidewalk with a sign, or walking through a neighborhood yelling about current issues. So my schedule has been a little out of whack.
In panel 2, McCune is doing "the Rusty dance," named after my aunt's toy poodle (RIP) who used to spin around on his hind legs to ask for table-food.
I looked up popular 1930's recipes for this page, since 1941 America wasn't yet in the war that shaped 1940s clothing/food/etc. Apparently gelatin molds were *the* way for 1930s dinner hosts to show off, since they required modern icebox/fridge technology. (I feel embarrassed pointing to listicles instead of primary sources for the menu, but that's what I used. I did have to behold this vintage photo of aspic, so you can't say I haven't suffered for my art, haha...)
