Hi patrons,
Introducing: Dame Dynamite! She's supposed to be an old-fashioned, well-established superhero in Turtle City. Usually when I create a new character, I visualize a real human face and simplify/exaggerate the details. In this case, I modeled Dame Dynamite's face on classic Superman drawings:

I might try and push that further as we go along. (Shiny black lipstick? The almost-no-nose? More shiny-hair hatching than the average citizen of Turtle City? We'll see.)
Barry and I talked a lot about Dame Dynamite's costume. He's more familiar with superhero comics than me. The 1940s Superman drawings above are from a hardcover collection of newspaper strips that he loaned me. We tried coming up with places to incorporate dynamite sticks, sparks, and black cords into the design. Barry thinks I'm going to regret having to draw her whip every time. He is probably right. :)
This is my 9th day of not leaving the house except for groceries, short walks, and bike rides. I'm really lucky to be able to do my day job from home, and not have immediate personal insecurity on top of the universal overwhelming global dread. I hope this new normal starts to include weekly Monday page updates for you. (Disclaimer that productivity doesn't equal human value, you don't have to *do* anything notable or Instagram-worthy during this pandemic, etc. I just want you to find out what happens faster, okay?!)
Thanks for reading!
