It's certainly one of those stories I tried, but gave up on. They come along once in a while. Troughton usually makes things watchable - but when you can't actually see him doing his interesting facial expressions or some other sort of physical business, there's really very little to entertain.

I just finished watching the Fl (not watched the discussion yet though) and I can already tell you guys struggled with this one. I can't say I blame you though. It's funny because someone asked you during your Tomb of the Cybermen reaction if watching random stories from later Doctors has spoiled things for you, since you know certain details already. I feel like this exact problem has affected your ability to properly enjoy this story, at least so far. This story is entirely built around mysteries. The mystery of the Yeti, them being revealed to be robots and what and who's controlling them. The metallic spheres and their connection to the Yeti. The Great Intelligence and what that is and how he's connected to this Padmasambhava. They also try to build suspicion around Travers, which doesn't work for you guys since you know he's a good guy and that he returns in 'The Web of Fear later on this season. This is why I think the admittedly slow pace actually works if you go into this story knowing absolutely nothing, The build up of suspense and intrigue is quite effective I feel. This is also why criticising a story for being slowly paced isn't always a valid critique, sometimes it has a purpose within the narrative. Anyway, you already knew the answers to most of those questions, so most of the intended suspense and intrigue of this story is almost entirely lost and the slow pace merely becomes an irritation. It's a shame you guys weren't really into this. but I think it was almost inevitable. I do quite like this story personally (it's fairly popular in the fandom too, ranking 87/241 on the last Doctor Who Magazine poll), but this is one of the times I completely understand why you guys wouldn't.
