Yeah Jack and the other soldiers recruited for the 65 incident were selected for their experience with such things but not given any details beyond their role, I'd compare it to Indiana Jones' involvement with Roswell, taken out into the middle of nowhere, not allowed to speak to anyone or know what's going on, and just do the job.
