Ok,I have made a few notes based on your comments: 1) Originally,this serial was intended to be a five parter;but the following four part story fell through;so Terry Nation was instructed to add two more episodes. 2) The TARDIS power source is always nebulous. This,imo,is so that it can go wrong in many different ways. 3) The story of the Thals and Dalek origins is not far away in your schedule. Hopefully many of your questions will be answered. 4) Daleks soon learn time travel. Were they inspired by the 1st Doctor telling them about his ship? That is the question! 5) Piece of trivia: the squid/hand belonged to Michael Ferguson ,who would go on to be a frequent Director on the show. 6) The Doctor is really the only character here who has personality traits. They may be grumpy ones,but Hartnell is clearly getting his teeth into the role. 7) Susan exits the show - and it's very sad!

Viewing figures for An Unearthly Child (all four parts) had been disappointing (around 5 million) and there was talk of axing the series in its infancy - but this serial kicked them up to 10 million within two episodes. Although the serial has its longeurs (literally - episodes 5 & 6 are clearly filler), it's still an absolute landmark;and it's no exaggeration to say that Dr Who would not exist today without it! (I shall now put my feet up and enjoy the two of you reacting to it)
