I love Gunn's protectiveness toward Lorne in this episode. First he reveals himself behind the bar when they're looking for him and calling him out, so they don't FIND him back there with Lorne and get Lorne hurt. Then he moves slowly away from Lorne as much as possible, to draw attention away. And finally, he stands right between Lorne and the guns aimed at him. Like he's slowly figuring out his stance on this and coming to a determination. The tension in this episode is absolutely brilliantly done. "Lots of monsters in this room to choose from" and Gunn chose the baby-killing one over Gio in that instance. It's also interesting how they played up Fred's fear and anxiety about going out, to make it just a LITTLE plausible that she MIGHT turn on them in order to survive the situation. LOVE her getting this little badass moment. <3 I liked the concept with the insect demon thing that ate Gio's head. All along he seemed harmless and small, because he COULD be - no reason to be defensive or go on the attack within Caritas. But under attack, he became monstrous when he was able to. Gio and his crew MADE him respond in a monstrous way. And I love Wesley's handling of the situation in the end. Gave Gunn a pass for this moment, understanding his conflict - but made it clear it could not ever happen again. Absolutely fair.
