Sorry for the myriad of comments, Jer. I've been sitting with what you said in your afterthoughts when you spoke about the stuff you have of your Father, like the old phone that barely holds a charge. My Grandmother dropped dead in front of me and my Mum when I was 8 years old. I'll be 53 this year, and I still have the last 1 dollar and 60 cents she had in her purse on that day, and the last bus ticket she bought, and the glasses she was wearing when she died. Time has long passed, and wounds have healed, but although these items seem trivial I still won't let them go. They are the story of the last day of a beloved woman's life on this planet, simple, mundane, but absolutely filled with meaning. I actually use her glasses myself now to help with reading; some might think it morbid but it feels right to me, like a circle of life thing. Your words and emotional honesty gave me a moment of pause to think on that, and what things mean to us.
