2025-03-28 11:10:33 +0000 UTCThe Vampire Diaries franchise did draw inspiration from Buffy, though it also drew inspiration from another unique show. In the late '60s, there was a soap opera that did something no other soap opera of the time did; it went supernatural. It was Dark Shadows, the original, not the reboot that happened in I think the '90s and not at ALL that horrible movie that Tim Burton and Johnny Depp did that was a travesty that pooped on everything the original series was about. But I digress with my rant. Caroline Forbes of TVD in particular was inspired by Caroline Stoddard of Dark Shadows. The personality similarities were apparent enough that I had to look up if DS was an inspiration for TVD, and it was, which made me quite happy as I love DS. Dark Shadows is not likely to be a show that would play well for a reactor. It's *extremely* long, as it was a soap opera that played 5 days every week for several years, and it was black & white for quite awhile, and some people tune out the first year of the series (called "The Beginning" when it streams on Amazon) because the supernatural part was limited to ghosts/hauntings and....then another creature that I won't say just on the off chance you check out the show for your own curiosity. The vampire aspect didn't show up until "The Beginning" was finished, episode 211. Hopefully that is new information and I'm not fansplaning Dark Shadows to people rolling their eyeballs and saying, "I knowwwww," LOL.
