2025-02-28 17:06:30 +0000 UTCI had a large group of friends in high school; we were the misfits, the punks, and it was glorious. All through middle school, I was mercilessly bullied, and it drew me into a shy, anxious shell of a person. Then I reached high school and fell in with the hardcore punk crowd, and *nobody* messed with us because we had each other's backs. We absorbed the drama kids (which I was also a part of) as well, and a few fringe people who had no other clique, and we took care of each other. Point of the blurb above? Graduation mostly means separation, you're right, it's true, but happily it's not always the case. While we took a few different paths and turns, people moved and some returned, and most of us are only connected now through social media, I am still close with three of those friends from high school from (age reveal) 30 years ago. In fact, we're hanging out tomorrow night to play a tabletop roleplaying game, Pathfinder. My best friend is one of them, and she and I are the Buffy fans of the group, lol. We're not exactly punks anymore (I ended up working in law as an associate attorney), but we're still friends.
