Buffy 3x1 "ANNE" UNCUT REACTION

Beautiful start to the season. Honestly didnt need the whole "hell" part, but I get it for the flow of the show

The scene with Buffy holding the axe and hammer..come on. Thor fr.

Where Buffy and Lily went wasn't literally Hell. It was just another dimension where to humans it would be Hell for them. There are many different dimensions in the Buffyverse with Angel being in a totally separate dimension.

I can't help thinking towards the end, when that portal sealed over, they left a *lot* of people behind. Maybe dozens. Oops. Well, can't save them all! Then again, maybe we just didn't see them getting everyone out for reasons of time constraints in programming. Yeah, this episode is a bit heavy-handed with the hell metaphor, but it's a unique opening for this series, with some excellent pacing/shots, like the shot of everyone in school in Sunnydale bustling around and re-acquainting with friends, then a cut to Buffy eating cold (?) food out of a can, sitting alone in her tiny, dingy apartment. Still, give some props to her at 17 having the resilience to not only secure a roof over her head, but solid employment as well and not ending up roaming the streets. That is not an easy thing for an inexperienced person to do on their own, and I find it admirable.

Charles Manson, the Manson Family. Yes, they squatted at Spahn Ranch in California, and his followers thought he was JC. I could totally see Chantarelle/Lily as one of the Manson Family, going along with the crowd, unable to be her own person because she doesn't know how to be or who she really is. Her response when Buffy asked, "What do they call you at home," says a lot; that woman has been through some nasty stuff while growing up. I wish they had delved a bit more into her backstory, but her response does say a lot. I read Helter Skelter when I was 9 years old. Gave me a lifelong love of forensics, though I went into civil law instead because as it turns out, scientific pursuits were not my talent, lol.

The tracking shot at the school at the beginning of the episode is one of my favorite scenes of the series. A single take 3 minutes long, 9 actors 11 interactions, and dozens of extras. A single mistake and they have to do it all again, Then it cuts to Buffy, trying to eat spaghetti from the can and failing. A portrait of depression. At the end Buffy realizes she can't walk away from being the Slayer because that would mean turning her back on people in need. And that's not who she is. The lore about stakes is if the stake is still in the vamp it goes poof with him. If it's not it's still good. Like their cloths, they don't just fall to the ground after.
