Xander’s harsh truth has always stemmed from his dislike of Angel. I think he feels like he still has a chance with Buffy. Other human males that have shown interest in Buffy he knows never have a real shot with her because they will never be in the know and won’t be apart of that world for her. Angel has always been different in that area. He not only is in the know of that world but is apart of it like none of her friends can truly grasp.
