Buffy 1x12 "PROPHECY GIRL" UNCUT SEASON 1 FINALE REACTION
Added 2024-12-24 22:00:02 +0000 UTCReaaalllly solid finale to a solid first season. I enjoyed to say the least. Idk what's next for Buffy & Friends but I look forward to getting to more of the story focused episodes. I really enjoyed the villain this season.

I can't remember if it was this episode or the one before, but you said something like "why don't the vampires in these shows ever have beards." It's because of all the vampire shows you've watched on the channel...they were mostly filmed in a certain era where beards were not popular or seen as attractive on a man. Now beards are super popular and very "in," but back in the Buffy days (or most of the other shows like TVD), beards were not "in." Angel is meant to be very attractive here, so they were not going to have a beard on him in the late 90's/early 2000's. Now, if they made the character he very well might have a beard. Besides you have to imagine it's more difficult to get that fake blood out of a beard and also show off the vampire teeth and prosthetics they used. Again...now they would just CGI it, but back then it was all practical.

It also highlights the problem with Willow not being able to speak up and tell Xander how *she* feels about him. Instead, she has to sit there while he practices lines for another girl on her, has to watch him ogle and flirt, while she keeps her own feelings bottled up. It's easy to say he should know, because we the audience see and hear it all, but the fact is, Xander being oblivious to Willow's attraction isn't too farfetched, especially at their age. Perhaps he does know, or suspects, but he doesn't want to broach the subject because -- like Buffy in this episode -- he doesn't want to lose a valued friendship because he doesn't feel the same. I've had male friends since elementary school, and later on, also female friends who were attracted to other girls, and I've been fortunate that there have been very little problems regarding unrequited feelings with either situation. When I started tabletop gaming, I ended up with many, many male friends through playing RPGs. I have dated a few of those male friends throughout the years, though nothing really serious ended up developing, and not much fallout; we usually stayed friends once we realized we weren't suited for each other. These days, after many long years of TTRPGs, I have 10 guy friends (two of whom I've been friends with since high school), and I'm at the settled part of my life where I'm not looking for love and romance, and several of them are either in committed relationships or not attracted to women, and it's a really comfortable, easy friendship. I feel SO lucky to have known so many awesome guys through the years, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
