2025-01-13 15:18:15 +0000 UTCAs you continue on this 7-season journey, you will notice several well-worn tropes throughout, but what the modern viewer should know is that this is where most of those tropes began! I know how it is looking through 21st-century eyes and the slew of supernatural shows throughout the years, but Buffy is one of the origin stories for those shows and their tropes. Hopefully that will put some of that into perspective as you watch. It also has its own lore, but it spreads it out over the seasons so you're not going to get a downpour of mega-info all at once. It's a slow burn. Though for the record, I only mention tropes because of what you said. Whomever this mysterious stranger is, we have no information on him. Pretty much all we can say is that he's not a high school student and not the same age as Buffy. He doesn't seem to like the vampires, that's for sure (as you are on episode 3 now), so whatever his story is, it is likely to be unexpected. Guess you'll just have to wait to find out! The movie is not connected to the series and has a bare minimum of canon regarding the Buffyverse, which is pretty much covered here in the first episode, about the Slayer and having a Watcher and the fact that Buffy did burn down a school gym with vampires in it. The movie is not at all necessary for the show. It was a fun movie for its time, but I feel it has not held up over the years. Other people will disagree with that assessment, though, and understandably. It did have its moments, and some good actors.

2024-12-12 10:46:42 +0000 UTCThis came across my YouTube feed, and I watched a few minutes, decided you were going to be interesting to accompany on this Buffy journey, and promptly joined your Patreon. I've lost count how many times I have watched this series since it first aired, including many times with multiple reactors, but it must be approaching 20 now. I'm watching with 3 other reactors now - season 2, season 5, and season 6 at this time. I also made my elderly mother watch the series before she passed, and she really enjoyed it, too! Season 1 is good, but it has its growing pains and definitely shows its age. But the series only soars upwards from here, and the first season is essential IMO to give the audience the foundation of the show. Looking forward to this!
