Alec's entire world was shook when Clary showed up. He has deep, hidden insecurities and he feels secure in the regimented life and rules of a shadowhunter. He knows what he is supposed to do and he is good at it. He's the ultimate soldier. When Clary showed up, Jace started breaking all the rules. Alec said as much. With the news that his parents lied to him about a fundamental thing such as being members of the Circle, his world is rocked to the foundation and he doesn't know what or who to trust. That is why he reverts back to the clear-cut place where rules dictate your every action. Jace's suggestion to go against everything he knows, terrifies him. That also explains his coldness towards Magnus, who is also opposite to everything that makes Alec feel secure. My poor, beautiful boy with his complicated heart.

2024-06-15 08:46:26 +0000 UTCI haven't read the books in a while so I don't remember if its something else too ...but I'm pretty sure they place the runes in spots like that so they can activate them by themselves and not rely on another shadowhunter to help. They wouldn't be able to contort themselves to activate them if needed in a fight or if they were on their own. They need to be able to reach to go over the runes again Lol
