Supernatural 14x18 "ABSENCE" UNCUT Reaction

This would have been much more impactful if Mary had been in more meaningful moments or episodes in the last 3 seasons.

Feels fitting that Sam would find Nick’s body and Dean would find Mary. I don’t remember ever seeing what the angels teleporting in looked like before, I might be incorrect. But seeing it there felt kind of wrong, lmao. I still think the car thing worked well in 5x22, I think it would have felt weird mentioning all the small details throughout the show for some reason. It makes sense to me in the package we get in that finale. This does feel a little contrived though. Definitely agree that pretty much her entire time back, Mary hasn’t been all that useful. Seemed like she was another person they had to keep thinking of storylines for as opposed to someone who was helpful to the plot. Kinda get what Dumah is saying tbh. Although maybe that’s my bias speaking, from not really enjoying her being around. These mfs keep causing problems by poking the natural order with a stick any time a friend of their’s dies, which is like, always. I adore Rowena. Seems kind of weird to me that the idea is that his soul might be gone. Like, it’s clearly not. He cares about what he did and about his family rejecting him. Clearly he’s not in control, and that’s something that needs to be dealt with. But like, it can’t really be the soul that’s an issue, right? Tbh I feel like it would have been really weird to have the full breakdown for some reason, I don’t know. Sam and Dean aren’t really the kind of people to hug each other and openly weep, and stuff. I feel like I might have found it kind of overlydramatic and odd (I know someone they love died, but I mean “overdramatic” in the sense of presentation and tone). Maybe at the end of the series or something, but eeh. Mary having two date ranges made me smile, 10/10. “Incapable of holding life” is an interesting phrasing. There are ways that this storyline could connect to my own life, and that could illicit some kind of response, technically. And I know that she was a massive part of their lives, obviously. But ultimately, as an audience member, I don’t care tat Mary died. I hope nobody brings her back. I hope she makes a fun cameo in the finale, but I’m not interested in anything involving her anymore. Interest in her being back ran out a few episodes into season twelve for me, I think. Overstayed her welcome imo. They probably shouldn’t have brought her back to begin with. The example you gave was definitely a more emotionally-wrenching experience. I was kind of waiting for Mary to bail here. I think a lot of the breaking down stuff would be odd, and it def wouldn’t have made logistical sense to have JDM for a single shot, but I see where you’re coming from. Damn, there are literally no new actors credited in this episode. I don’t think there’s anything I can mention here this time. 😅 Remember ALIE? LOL. 17!

I'm feeling the same was you with this situation. I did wonder why they couldn't bring her back. I didn't think they should bring her back, but I figured it would be possible. We know that you can recreate a body from its ashes. It's been done before, on the show. Adam, for one - in season 5. He was killed by the ghouls and Sam and Dean burned his body. The angels re-created his body from the ashes and put his soul back in it. So, I'm thinking that maybe what Jack did made it so the ashes couldn't be used. That's really the only explanation I can think of. They could have called her soul back to her body. They'd done that before too, even after the soul went to heaven. They did it with Jack. Anyway, this is not looking good for Team Free Will 2.0. This situation brought up a long running rift in the fandom too. Well, the rift was already there. This just made it really big. I've heard that sometimes the stories we want aren't told because the show can't get writers to make it happen. I think the Showrunners have a set number of specific things they want to happen and that's the direction they give their writer's. Then they let the writers bring the other rest of the "filler" to them. Writer's just weren't either interested in finding a way to fit Mary into more parts of the story or they didn't know how. The showrunners obviously wanted Nick on the show more than they wanted Mary. So you can see their priorities. Jack doesn't have enough soul to fuel the emotions you were hoping for. We know that he did lose a lot of his soul. We don't know how much, but it seems like he may have lost way too much.
