Sam constantly lying just pisses me off. And then the truth comes out and he can't even pretend to feel bad about it. He just has such a "whatever" attitude, like it's no big deal, and Dean's overreacting to finding out he's been being lied to. I'm not saying Dean's blameless, but everyone cuts Sam too much slack imo.
I kind of get where Travis is coming from. Remember, he had to watch while Jack's father slaughtered and ate 8 people. He probably met the families of the victims while he was investigating.
Also, remember that the boys know nothing about Jack. They just assume that he's a guy with a heart of gold because Sam feels the need to vomit his emotions all over the case. All the information that they actually have is that Jack has been very aggressive, and that the body count can rise really quickly. There are plenty of times in the episode where if they had been wrong about Jack they wouldn't have been close enough to stop him from killing someone. It just seems bizarre to put so much faith in a guy they had literally one angry conversation with. Kind of unprofessional imo.
Really not my favorite MOTW.
Great reaction though :)
Sending happy thoughts <3

I think Dean and most hunters see the world very black and white aka all monsters are bad & shoot first ask questions later, but Sam is different he thinks more logically about things and he also has the demon blood inside him of course which wasn’t his choice and he can understand Jack, saying “im not going to kill someone unless they do something to be killed for” sams story is very relatable to me as is his way of thinking which is why Sam is my favorite! You can really see the difference between Sam and deans thought process in this episode and how they deal with things.

I totally agree with you! sam gets a lot of hate this season but I really understand where he’s coming from, sam has to deal with the fact that something is different inside him that he’s different, something Dean couldn’t ever understand, I think people need to give him some slack especially Dean.

I love that Dean's first reaction when confront ing Sam about his secrets is "whose the girl?!". Hilarious. Also it's so sad how Dean proved Sam right for not telling him the truth. Sam and Dean are each others everything. A term usually reserved for a significant other but how else can you describe their relationship. Sam has to deal with facing the person he loves the most and telling him "I'm the reason our parents died and your life sucks. I'm some sort of demonic hybrid". Is it any wonder he would rather lie then see his brothers care for him diminish. The worst part is Dean's reaction that prove Sam right "if I didn't know you I'd want to hunt you".

I am grateful you mentioned the look on Sam's face when Dean mentioned God didn't want him doing what he was doing. Not a lot of people do. And both my dad, and I thought Jared did a really good job in that scene-including even how he answered the phone, ect

I think I feel differently about this episode each time I watch it. I go back and forth between thinking the case is really well executed and weaves into the story between the brothers snugly, and thinking it’s kinda mid and boring to watch. I liked it a lot this time around though. I think maybe it’s because the first three episodes are so top tier to me, I might look at this one a bit unfairly.
For one positive, this episode has so many small details I picked up on during just this watch alone:
- Dean calling Cas “Cas” already, by episode four (which means we can now too).
- The first argument scene ends with the phone ringing and you can see both of them physically snap back to reality, Dean’s demeanour even crumbles, he looks scared.
- Sam opening his door *before* the car stops when they get out to argue about the Demon blood stuff.
- Dean’s “we’re people who know a little something about something” vs Sam’s “we’re people who can help”; it shows Dean’s more cool-guy conversation style and overtly reminds us how empathetic and emotionally present Sam is despite the entire theme of this episode being about him being “evil” inside.
Plus I loved seeing the first on-camera break-in to a living space to save someone going wrong because they goofed.
And of course, some great quotes, whether they go down smooth or are tough to swallow. Dean’s “if I didn’t know you, I would wanna hunt you” is maybe the most Dean has gotten me to react to a line thus far; it’s so powerful and I can FEEL it cutting into Sam. Dean saying that is so much more important to him than what *God* thinks. Concluding with the entire message of the episode, “it doesn’t matter what you are, it matters what you do.” I think I just convinced myself that I love this episode as I’ve been typing, LOL.
The guy playing Jack does a lot of voice work, most notably Cell in DB(Z) and funnily enough, Handsome Jack from Borderlands.

I think he more meant a reference to the "Jack and Jill went up the hill" rhyme.

"If I wouldn't know you, I would wanna hunt you" - well that one certainly hits.
(09:30) Love that you caught onto Dean already giving the angel he met three episodes ago a nickname.
Also I never noticed they actually spelled it correctly in the subtitles as "Cas" here.
(16:22) I find that raw meat eating quite disgusting. I say this as if "Mettbrötchen" , which is minced raw pork on a bread roll (sometimes you can find even just the meat part formed as a hedgehog aka "Mettigel" on buffets) isn't a real dish in germany. It's not that common anymore, but I have seen people eat it, so... (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mett)
It's probably the way he eats it though.
(32:26) Jack & Jill as in the movie? Because the movie came out in 2011, which was years after this episode came out...
For me personally it's an okay episode, not bad but not good either. I do the talks between the brothers and Dean's enjoyment of his new favourite word though.
Have a good day.
Bex
PS: I'm going with 9 today.
