A lot of the time in shows when time travel stuff happens it makes things funky, but I think Supernatural does a great job here. The guy who plays Samuel is also in Stargate Atlantis, and is fantastic there as well :) Great reaction as always! Sending happy thoughts <3

Mary's deal would have happened either way because Samuel was on Azazel trail. Who knows though john might have still wound up with the impala. As to whether Azazel knew Dean its impossible to know. The angel could have fixed it or he didn't want to jeopardize his endgame. Also, deans named after his grandma not himself so its entirely possible there is no loop in this episode.

I found it very much of a gut punch to hear Mary desperately wish that her children didn't grow into this lifestyle. Because who would want that for their kids?

2023-05-07 01:11:57 +0000 UTCAnother great episode and reaction! The scene with Dean begging his mom not to get out of bed never fails to make me cry. It’s such a heartbreaking moment. Time travel can definitely fuck things up but I do really like how it’s executed. Super interesting to see John before hunting and how that changed him. Like Mary said, he’s so sweet and believes in a happily ever after. He’s everything a hunter isn’t, it’s sad to know what he turns into. It was also sad to hear Mary say the worst thing would be for her kids to grow up as hunters, knowing what fate awaits them

Samuel and Deanna - I'm not sure you picked up on it, but they named Sam and Dean after Mary's parents. That Mary and Dean talk is so emotional and so beautiful. Making deals really seems to be a family thing. Very fun episode. Great way to learn about the backgrounds and how some of the things came to be. Hope you have a great day. Bex PS: I'm going for a 7.

2023-05-06 23:46:43 +0000 UTCthis episode is a favorite, it’s so so good, I love that even though in the show john and mary are gone we still to get to learn more about them and see them in this episode it’s so interesting I also love the going back in time and the scene where dean tells mary not to get out of bed is so heartbreaking, jensen is amazing! season 4 is off to a great start👏🏻

These first three episodes are all top tier imo (not that the previous/next ones aren’t, I just remember these three super well), I look forward to them every time. We are truly in the next incarnation of this show. Plus we got Cas for a third time which is 10/10. This ep opened Pandora’s box for me when I first saw it. Mary was a fucking hunter. What? I couldn’t really process it fully for a while, I feel like it changed everything, even though it didn’t really change anything. It’s such a cool idea. Definitely agree with you on the actor playing Samuel and Azazel. He did his homework, and I think he kicked ass. Samuel felt like a well developed character too, at least in terms of the performance. I don’t think there’s any worries about the whole “do they remember him” thing; the only one that Dean revealed his identity to was Samuel, who was possessed by Azazel anyway. Mary would have named her son after her mother Deanna, and unfortunately she didn’t live long enough to see what he looked like as an adult. Plus personally I don't think I'd remember what the dude who recommended a car to me looked like, regarding John. The only two people left living that might remember him were his parents. Jensen in the scene telling Mary not to get out of bed the day she dies is wonderful. I think her reaction is great too, they both do a very good job. But damn, Jensen gets to me sometimes. Super emotional. Also shoutout to Azazel possessing someone named "Doctor Brown" in the episode about time travel, LOL. The actor playing Samuel went on to be on Walker, which is Jared’s current main series. Also young Mary was Cupid in Arrow, and I love her endlessly. 17!

Sam and Dean were named after her parents Samuel is the grandpa and Deanna is the grandmas name. I think John remembering Dean is different cause they only interacted twice and they weren’t that memorable. But the moms memory is trickier I think she remembers him but not everything that was said. With her being half asleep to check on her crying baby she didn’t remember the date the random guy told her 10 years prior.
