6 - Waldensians, Cathars, and Heretical Poverty
Added 2024-07-20 14:38:10 +0000 UTCHey friends, here's the sixth installment of my series on Heresy and Crisis in the Middle Ages, this time focused on the various 'heretical poverty movements' that exploded onto the scene in the wake of the Gregorian reforms. Here we take a look at the Waldensians, the Cathars, and how we can think of these groups as part of one singular, overarching anti-clerical reform movement dedicated to apostolic perfection.
Next up were going to turn our attention to the Franciscan and Dominican orders, that is, the men who dedicated their lives to chastity, poverty, and obedience, and who would ultimately come to serve as the eyes and ears of the papacy by staffing the inquisition.
