The gang talks about an upcoming game that Blue is very excited about, and then goes full Oops All Critical Role!

I saw the first 2 campaigns of CR and Vox Machina and just love it, and I think they nailed it when they were talking about them being friends and having genuine love for what they're making being a big part of the sauce that makes it work so well. I think when companies that are so removed from the end product are missing that love, and trust in each other and just put together puzzle pieces that fit you get a more soulless product that makes them think 'oh this doesn't work, it doesn't sell' as opposed to 'oh we did it wrong'. I love that these guys have expanded and created a legit product that can actually sell and introduce people to fantasy and D&D in a way the LOTR movies did back when I was a kid. I'm really excited for the new show and just as a person genuinely happy that these people were able to create something moving, and fun, and imaginative that inspires other people to explore this world they love and turn it into a legit business.

On CR, i feel like, just from a marketing prospective, if they plan to use Daggerheart theyd announce it ASAP. The fact that they didnt makes me think theyre using DnD and didnt wanna say it because it might seem like giving up on DH

Comment for the Podcast: Regarding the Sword/Axe/Spear question, that might've been a Fire Emblem question since that's how the weapon triangle works in those games. Ranged weapons are part of the same triangle, with bows in particular being considered in the same category as axes

Massive CR fan whose watched all of c2, tlovm, all Brennans EXU series and watched c3 from its release to finish and I have several thoughts on your comments. First, definitely agree that Brennan isn't much out of left field at all - for various reasons it felt like Matt (and the cast a little) was burnt out on exandria a bit and definitely burnt out on dming. Brennan has as mentioned done loads of stuff with CR already, but he recently wrapped up the first "book" on worlds beyond number's longform campaign of The Wizard, The Witch and The Wild One (recommend so much its amazing), so he won't be doing 2 longform AP campaigns at once (he does have an apparently 14+ year long homegame though lol). As for the mentioned issues some of the fandom had with c3 - yes, I absolutely think some of the outside influence is a reason they happened, but it also felt a lot the cast got a pitch for a game that didn't happen - c3 was initially described as deadlier and pulpier but wasn't either. Compared to c2 which definitely had some moments of indecision, late c3 was several episodes and so many hours spent rehashing the same discussion in character on what the party would do about the gods, and they did in fact not reach a decision until literally in the middle of the final boss fight - which at that point felt highly unsatisfying and rushed from a story pov. With all of that, I'm super happy they're leaving exandria behind for a while. I think a break is gonna help a lot and Matt especially - and if there's one thing I hope Brennan brings with him from d20 and wbn it's how he helps with player character building in order to make a more well rounded party. I'm not talking class wise, I'm talking ability wise - none of the pc's in c3 had an int score above 14 and there was barely any profiencies in the various int based skills. It showed, in how the cast would consistently fail majority of all int based skill checks and while that is a thing in AP, it meant even the necessary information almost exclusive came via infodumps from npcs. Contrast that with c2, where Marisha's character, in combination with her notetaking (which was both an ooc and in character thing), predicted much of the final major plot stuff and led to the party without much direction from Matt at all going exactly in the necessary directions to encounter their final antagonist. There's nothing wrong with going off the rails - the m9 did that plenty (the entire xhorhas arc was unplanned because Matt did not expect them to get there or stay there or give up the beacon and gain favour there), but them following the rails to an extent here made for some excellent storytelling and gameplay. To finish off a long rant/ramble, knowing CR can do things that well, made c3 worse for me because it was so clear it could've been better. But yeah afagshdhdg I'm super hyped for c4 and think it'll be a much needed and very exciting breath of fresh air! And I doubt they'll move away from the fantasy tone and vibe

I’m quite excited for the CR shakeup! Matt absolutely deserves a break and running two shows and the campaigns all at once has got to be a nightmare of stress for the others. This is I think a really shrewd business decision that’ll let them diversify and keep the company stable.

I know people are sad about the critical role change up, but it my mind, we've had 10 years and hundreds, if not over a thousand hours of similar content. That'll always be there, and I'm excited for a change up.... as soon as I catch up
