OSPod 113 After-After Show-Show!

The gang talks about the nerve-wracking practical effects of swashbuckling stuntwork, Eternal Strands, accidentally dating videogame characters, plumbing the depths of Dredge in search of more eldritch horror, and what makes a cozy game cozy!

A couple of weeks late to the party, but I listened to episode 113 of the OSPod (still need to get to AASS 113, probably this evening while cooking), and you mentioned not having a lot of silly waltzes you can do for the memes. I have a suggestion there. If you ever watched Thomas the Tank Engine while it still used models to make the show and still had the original theme music, you might have noticed all the theme music for individual characters. Different characters themes have different styles reminiscent of different music genres, e.g. I've seen Percy theme re-orchestrated as jazz by fans, James's as a big band swing style, even Diesel's as something you might find in an old western movie. But relevant to your search for silly waltzes, might I suggest: Duck, the Great Western Engine. Duck gets introduced midway through S2E8 Duck Takes Charge, and you hear his character theme just after he's introduced. If you don't want to sift through an episode looking for an example of it, however, S2E12 Pop Goes the Diesel features it basically at the start of the episode. While there was never an official release for Thomas's soundtrack, one of the composers, Mike O'Donnell, did release some albums a couple of years ago remixing various Thomas themes, including Duck's theme (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1okw3uON5k). If you want something closer to the versions in the original show, there are plenty of fan-made versions on YouTube and SoundCloud that try to re-create the original. For example, here's two by Sudrian Afro replicating the variants you hear in series 2 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4n9acPm1Ho4) and series 3 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=938JAM-aneE) after the composers switched to a new synthesizer and changed up the show's musical style.

Another incredible indie game is Indivisible by Lab Zero Games! It’s got such a great story and really memorable characters. Pretty short too if I remember correctly

Scott Walker

Red: "If you throw the book into the ocean, you get eaten by a big fish, but that's the good ending." Me: "........Oh." Red: "and if you throw everything into the ocean, your dead wife comes back to life, but also, Chthulu shows up." Me: "Oh!"

The 'Court Jester' is a fantastic film! I hope that Indigo does a 'Movie Struck' on it some day.

My problem with Smash Ultimate's Spirit Board is that it counts a Spirit as "new" if you don't *presently* have it in your inventory. This was very annoying when I was trying to get all the Spirits for the collection, and I kept wasting time trying to get Spirits I already had the upgraded versions of.

OtherworldManeki

Oh, wow I didn't know... Thanks for informing me!

Triple Cerulean

Triple Cerulean

I'm going to make a baseless guess and say Red shoots barebow, the best kind of archery

Padhraic Dunne

Absentialucci

As a huge swashbuckler fan, I am in favour of Red giving the genre the love it deserves. The 1920s Zorro is a good one to watch for research purposes, and The Court Jester is just a fun watch (starring Basil Rathbone as the villain).

Susaga

I did too. Her videos keeps getting recommended to me and if anyone else had made it, I'd watch it so much...

Susaga

By your guys' definition, I think my cozy game is The Binding of Isaac.

Alycia Shedd

I dont know if Red will read this but if she does I would like to reccomend Sunless Sea, its very similar to Dredge but came out 8 years before it around 2015. Its highly text based but I think it contains more complex moral choices and depth in the way the player interacts with the games mechanics. It has a DLC called Zubmariner as well. Disclaimer, it is a roguelite that saves saves a bit of your progress after the player dies where the protagonist passes on some of their possessions and belongings for their descendant to inherent.

Jacob

My cosy game is EU4, ya know, mass murdering, suppressing rebels, killing heretics. Ah yes...

DarkKot 686

Oh, that sucks. I liked her videos.

Nathan Fish

Elden Ring/bloodborn/alien isolation is my Cosy game :)

Harvest Moon is much older than GameCube! The first one came out on the SNES.

Wednesday Watusi

Jill Bearup does fight analysis videos, and did Robin Hood and Zoro. You might enjoy them. She's very funny.
