NEW YEAR'S SEASONAL UPDATE!

Happy new year everyone!

We hope you enjoyed our last batch of videos for 2024, but now it's a brand new year and that means time to zoom out and look at where OSP stands going into 2025!

First, a 2024 Recap:
The last year was an absolute blast for Red & I. We had some really fun Trope Talks from Trickster Heroes and Heroic Sacrifices to Timeloops and Secret Identities, plus a look at some load-bearing pillars of storytelling like The Noodle Incident. On the History front, I powered my way through more of Greek History, running from the dawn of the Polis Age through the end of the Classical period – and had a fun 3-part Venice mini-marathon to celebrate the launch of the Veneziad. All that plus possibly my best episode of Pope Fights to date. Then we had the real heavy hitters like Astraea, the Zodiac Race, the Heroes of Greece, the latest Journey To The West, and possibly our biggest collective Hoist in OSP history: the wombo-combo Halloween Special on the Mummy, with accompanying history video and detail diatribe. Speaking of, we had a killer slate of Detail Diatribes, from Star Wars and Space Marines to Batman and Shadow of the Colossus.
Red and I are really having fun getting more into the analysis of what makes stories so great, beyond the mere summaries – and as we get into 2025, we want to find more ways to talk more about storytelling in more depth, across history, myths, literature, and modern media.

Our streaming calendar was a little lighter this year, partly because Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are a tough act to follow, partly because we were focused more on video production in 2024 (Mummies man... that video took a lot of work). Nonetheless, we raised a combined $36,000 for various national and international causes across half a dozen streams!

ON TO 2025! >:)
Our biggest goal for the year is to make an amazing slate of videos for you. First things first is taking a quick break in the upload schedule for the first two Fridays of January, but we've already got some topics picked for the early months of the year: like a deep dive on the Greek Muses, a valentine's-special hijinks video about Rousseau & Voltaire's Best Friend Breakup, a Pope Fights on Caterina Sforza, a couple trope talks on topics like "The Dreaded" and "Big Dumb Objects", that history of New Zealand I've had in my sights for the last few months, and a Detail Diatribe on Transformers One. We always have a great time when we line up videos on related topics, like our back to back Loki Myth and Snorri historymakers episodes and the three week bonanza of Egypt & Mummy videos this fall – so we're looking at more opportunities for themed video pairings this year.

We're also in the early stages of developing a new video format! We've had a lot of fun discussing film and TV with our Detail Diatribes, and we want to find a way to make that work with books, going beyond summary and really getting into what makes our favorite classics so engaging. It'll take some brainstorming and experimenting, but we're hoping to have an episode of this mysterious new show before too long.

Outside of videos, we had so much fun streaming Skyrim for our New Year's charity stream that Red is already looking forward to more Skyrim livestreams in 2025. Exact timing will depend on video production schedules etc, but we're hoping to have a more regular cadence of livestreams.

Shiny things in the real world!
Outside of the channel, the Big Event on both of our calendars is the launch of our respective BOOKS! The physical release of Aurora Volume 1 is currently slated for July, and the Veneziad should be getting shipped out late summer as well. Depending on production schedules, it's theoretically possible for both books to launch within the same month or even the same week, which would be hilarious.
Jokes aside, these books represent the culmination of years and years and years of work by both of us, and we're beyond thrilled to bring them to you, in print(!!!) this year. Your excitement for the work we do on the channel week after week is what gave us the confidence to try these projects, and the overwhelmingly positive response to Aurora and The Veneziad has been a dream come true. It inspires us want to make more – After these books land on your bookshelf this year, we're already looking forward to what's next. (If I wasn't a coward I'd write "The Veneziad 2: Re-Ven-geance", but I have other plans...)

But we've also got Pins! We're continuing the tour through the Zodiac with Sagittarius, Capricorn, and Aquarius, likely launching in one batch around Valentine's day – we're aiming to have it so you can buy each one individually but get a discount for getting all 3. Afterwards we'll have Pisces, then Aries, and that'll be the zodiac all rounded out! Of course, the are more constellations in the sky, like Perseus, Pegasus, and Andromeda, Hydra, and tons else that would look sick as hell in the Dark-Blue-With-Glowy-Stars style Red does for the constellation pins – but there are also more Greek deities, more Egyptian, Norse, and Mesopotamian, plus whole pantheons we haven't yet explored in Mesoamerica and East Asia (Journey To The West pins, anyone?)
And this is actually what we want to turn over to you! Once we finish the Zodiac, we have a bunch of ideas, but we don't know what to do first. Let us know what pins you want to see from us this year with the poll down below. (Edit: I meant to set this to multiple choice but I can't change it after the fact, so if you like multiple options, leave a comment!)

Last bit of logistics is the next few days we'll be turning over our Patreon from Per-Creation to Per-Month. I'll drop a separate post in the coming week with relevant updates.

See you in 2025!
And that's that! We're beyond excited for the videos, books, streams, pins, and overall fun times this year will have in store, and we're beyond grateful for your help towards making it possible. Because of support from community members like you, we don't need to contort our channel to catch the algorithm or resort to clickbait – we can just focusing on making the most fun, insightful, and exciting videos we can, trusting that there's a community of people ready to learn and share in these amazing stories from across time and around the world.

Cheers all, and happy 2025.

I honestly am a fan of more Constellation pins and of JttW pins. But I could also see a series on mythological creatures? A chibi Cerebus and Manticore etc would be adorable!

Autumn Brooks

Why isn't there an "all of the above" answer?

K C

I would love both Journey to the West pins and more Norse pantheon pins. It'd be fun to grow my collection even more!

Corrin Talic

Fingers crossed for a detail diatribe on Epic the Musical. I wanna hear Red and Blue's thoughts given their vested interest in greco/roman myth

323starlight

I'm probably alone in this, but the one set of pins I probably wouldn't jump on immediately would be the Journey to the West pins. I know they're very popular but I'd rather have anything else from the list.

Robert Davis

All of the above. I'd say more frequently too, except I'm not sure my wallet would approve.

Jason van Basten

Look, I don't want to seem desperate but I'd sell my firstborn for an amaterasu pin

LadyofBree

Go crazy with the pins.

Fish_Hemsworth

Ooooh all these pins would be fantastic, but I'm leaning towards the Egyptian and norse because I like completing a collection. Also, really looking forward to the history of new zealand! Being a kiwi I already know a fair bit, but I'd like to see your spin on telling our history! Happy 2025!

Kayannepepper

SPACE PINS

Jonathan Swavely

I want more constellation pins first and foremost, but I'd also really love to see stuff you haven't done before! :D

Wingless Moonstone

All of the above! But I do want me a disgruntled dragon horse pin from JtTW

Aria Surratt

I have an entire LIST of games on Steam I want to play, namely: an English version of Kanon, Rewrite, and Summer Pockets, Our Life: Beginnings and Always [plus the sequel coming this year], Until Then, Dark Sky, Flowstone Saga, Everholm and Research Story [these two might come to the Switch eventually if we're lucky], and a bunch that are coming out that will almost certainly get a Switch release......eventually [Slay the Spire 2, Hyper Light Breaker, Aethermancer, and Margin of the Strange]. >deep sigh< At least all of the games coming this year to the Switch 2 and old Switch should keep me busy enough that I'll stop staring longingly at the game pages on Steam and/or obsessively check for news of a Switch release.

Kura

I'd like to submit an "all of the above" option for pins because I adore all these suggestions

Joy RC

So if the question is what to do FIRST it's gotta be journey to the west. But like in general I'd love to see an Ishat pin! Also I always thought what pins we get is decided by Red's adhd brain lol

TroubleKitty

I could vote for literally all of them, but if i can only do one. I gotta get me a monke pin

Jay Young

Switch only here. The number of times I've been foiled by hearing about a cool game for it to only be on that darn Steam Store is legion.

Dread Sovereign

I officially love all the pin suggestions and want to vote all of the above.

Dread Sovereign

man can't wait for another banger year! regarding our pin options, ofc JTTW will probably win but honestly pantheon pins of ztuff you haven't done would be so cool, cause honestly, there's not a lot out there for those, at least stuff that isn't like *questionable* in depictions or quality lol

Raptorus77

[mumbles quietly] journey to the west horse pee pin. Haha what who said that

Bitterblue55

I'm so excited for the movie. I keep searching for news, but there really isn't any yet.

Kura

Um.....all of the above. I can't decide! I just want all of them. I'd love an Amaterasu pin, she's one of my favourite goddesses, so perhaps a dual pack with Tsuki-Yomi. Or Inari, maybe, too. That'd be great for Pride Month! [As a side note, is anyone else a Switch only gamer for the most part, doomed to wait impatiently on the sidelines until Hades II is fully released, while dodging spoilers like we're playing on Extreme Measures? Anyway. I'll just keep up my tradition of playing Hades I every February until then. Hopefully it'll just be one more year.]

Kura

I would personally love some Celtic and welsh mythology pins, like a Nuada or a pwyll! Something from the Mabinogion or the Book of invasions would be incredible!

A-Myriad-of-Stars

I mean...all? I enjoy adding to the collection - and I just need the water jug that's an air sign somehow to complete my personal signs! (At least the ones I understand, as everything past "Rising sign" is like "???????????????????????????????????????" so I just keep it to that, sun and moon) But also! BLUE, THIS IS TECHNICALLY MORE RECENT HISTROY (as in within the last 200 years) BUT HOW HAVE YOU NOT DISCUSSED THE ANASTASI CHURCH OF OIA? EVEN FOR A YOUTUBE SHORT VIDEO? IT! HAS! BLUE! DOMES! (That or I just shouted a wedding anniversary location to go, either works tbh)

Violet Sterling

Is it weird i want some of the Greek primordials but a bit later than average since they tend to be more concepts but also dieties?

Canis

I've been dying for a JttW pin set, or even just one of Sun Wukong facial expressions would be hilarious. But honestly any of them would be great!

Sarai Thompson

Dead Tree! ‘Aurora’ that I can hold and page through when AFK!! yessssssssssss!

melchar

some Red and Blue pins?

Anthony Docimo

I was thinking the other pantheon pins. I’ve been collecting them and I’m trying to find a good purse or messenger bag to pin all those deities to. You can’t go too far with an apopotraic purse.

Melissa Aaron

I already have my two favorites from the Greek pantheon, so filling out the rest of the Egyptian is my new most wanted

OtherworldManeki

all the pins please! and hopefully all of last years pins for black friday sale pls ^^

Lexi Lupus

I voted for the Journey to the West pins, but honestly I'd be excited for any of the options provided.

InkMaster

Would absolutely love to see stuff from cultures not yet covered, but not at the cost of continuing Journey to the West

Anne James

YES, JttW PINS! And more episodes, please!

Anne James

Honestly, all the pins sound so cool

ElspethGoldeye

Detail Diatribes for books? I'm so excited!

FabianF

I'm so excited for new video formats and more discussions of books!

Jennifer Sieben

I ask only 3 things from you guys: Egyptian god pins, A pin of Ishtar, and a mention of Rama (of Rendezvous fame) in the BDO trope talk. Yes, I am a needy little biotch

Sadie is trans gemder

I would like an all of the above pins option please!

Maddy New

Excited for the video on Caterina Sforza, or as my sister and I took to calling her while playing Assassins Creed 2, Caterina Sports Car.

Jax

does "east asia" also cover southeast asia? Or other, I guess other works.

Ava Jarvis

Journey to the West Pins is something I've been waiting for, but it does also feel like something that should be saved for the Journey to the West series finale, whenever that is.

Sam Fisher

Can't I just vote "all of the above"?

Ambroze DaDragonBunny

I know that slavic mythology is super sparse and filled with so much fakelore, but I'd love to see some stuff on the firebird, and the very little amount of Lore we have on slavic gods, and exploring the demonology as well

MieszkoIsPunk

I am SO HYPED to get my copy of the Veneziad this year! It will take pride of place on my bookshelf alongside Aurora Vol. 1 for sure! 💕 Also, the thought of Journey to the West pins are EXCITING, so that's what I voted for, but I'd still love to see designs of gods from pantheons we haven't seen yet either!

Ebony Voigt

Very specific but I would love a Quetzalcoatl pin

TheTypingDragon

I believe you mean PINtheons.

Valerie Kaplan

🥳 happy new year! I am sooo hyped to finally get to read Aurora when it's printed, I just cannot deal with the format on my laptop

Katharina

I’m excited for everything you guys have in store. Personally I’d save the journey to the west pins for when Red does the last couple of videos for that series. Can’t wait for your books!

Nicole Colon

My vote is "GIMME ALL THE PINS" but if I had to choose one set first, it's either JTTW or more Norse Deity pins!

J.C. Fayerie

I actually missed the casual streams. They make for great surprise content. Also missed Red's After Darks. But so excited for book summaries!!

Carolina Manga Library

Thanks for all your guys' work this years and I know I'll love your stuff this coming year too! Much love
