Detail Diatribe: Redeeming "Revenge of the Sith"

I'm in this video and I don't like it. I was one of those fools who was so hyped for Revenge of the Sith that I read the novelization ahead of time. My dork friends and I dressed up and camped out to be the first in line to see it... completely unnecessary, since it was a small local theater in a small town with not that many people to compete with. I was SO PISSED after the movie, since I'd read ahead of time what I imagined could-have-been. I haven't been able to get upset at anything Star Wars related that's come out since. Not even when I saw the Rise of Skywalker... That one is objectively a worse movie, and all it did was leave me bored. Except for the Alien Party Planet scene, that was hilarious.

Jumping off Red’s statement of how fun it could be to rewrite a good idea/bad execution story, any in particular either of you have ideas about?

Also on the point of no Star Wars thing being perfect and them all being a bit goofy, the otherwise really well written novelization of RotS tries to solve the old man Palpatine defeating four jedi at the same time by introducing the force-power "Force-Answer-a-Riddle" which projects a riddle into the target's mind that they must answer before being able to move. Windu just ignores it but the other jedi are discombobulated by it. New Canon changes this to a kind of Force-Debilitating-Scream, which is still silly, but a less layered and overly complex form of silly that feels more at home in the powers as portrayed in both the meta and situation.

Fun Fact: The novelization of "The Empire Strikes Back" came out months before the movie and hit the best seller list very quickly, and yes, it had the Vader reveal in it. But still nobody knew the reveal before the movie came out because, at the time, novelizations were meant to help you relive the movie because VHS were not common in households and you'd only get to see the movie again if it got re released to theaters (or maybe put on TV as was slowly becoming more common). So even though a ton of people bought the book before the movie, nobody read the book beforehand because they didn't want to ruin the movie for themselves (spoiler culture wasn't a thing yet). And in case you're wondering, don't read the TESB novelization, it's basically the movie but with scenes that were rightly cut and the stilted dialog that was in the original script. Of the Star Wars novelizations, it's probably the weakest, the only real gain being it gives you a better sense of time over which events in the story are happening (like a little less than a month, which feels like just a couple days in the movie). Do read the novelization of "New Hope" which is called "Star Wars: the Legend of Luke Skywalker" or something and is based on early versions of the script where the author has to fill in some things that weren't quite worked out yet. You also get to meet Wormy, the kind of kid Luke was in his friend group before his family got burninated.

Damn it, I'm trying to catch up on some Podcast right now! Now I got to stop everything to be a part of a discussion I actually want to be part of.
