You didnt really touch in this but I feel one thing Books are really good at are getting inside the head of the main character. There's a book by Dan Wells that got made into a movie, both called "I am not a serial killer". One of the big tensions in the book the main character thinks he is a bad person, but wants to he a good person. But it plays out almost entirely in his head. And short of doing narration that's really hard visually so the movie version almost plays more like he doesn't care about being good, and is just carefully stepping into being bad than actually fighting against it.
