Trope Talk: Small Mammal on a Big Adventure

I was kinda surprised you didn't include tiny people stories like The secret world of arrietty considering how big of a Ghibli fan you are, or bug stories that often overlap with them

I'll give you as thorough an answer as I can. Your question essentially has 3 components: 1) can you teach us about this, 2) can you fundraise about this, and 3) why haven't you made a bigger statement about this? Permit my inference on point 3 – but Red got a Tumblr ask about that on Friday which was far less politely worded than yours, but is nonetheless worth linking here: https://comicaurora.tumblr.com/post/740610820808048640/sorry-to-drop-a-hella-irl-political-question-on. So in reverse order: 3) We have made statements, we've just been trying not to contribute to the massive online firestorm of everybody yelling all the time, so those statements have been pretty concise and limited to our fundraiser streams. On that subject: 2) we have fundraised, for a total of over $40,000 to UNICEF and Doctors Without Borders (who are actively pushing for a ceasefire, which we also support). The fundraisers and our statements happened on our livestreams, the first being on Halloween, as we felt it was worth doing that quickly to get funds where they were needed rather than tying it to a video and waiting who knows how long. As for 1) we've been thinking for months about how to make a video on this, but any honest attempt at it, at the level of care this subject deserves, would constitute the single most difficult video I've ever and maybe will ever make. I've been outspoken about Hong Kong and Ukraine in part because I had prior knowledge of those subjects, but also because their relevant histories are far less modern than Israel/Palestine's (ending at '97 and '92 respectively), and because those subjects are far less universally inflammatory. A history of I/P essentially begins in 1922 at the absolute earliest (really begins in 1948) and the situation begins evolving rapidly after Hamas took power in Gaza in 2006. That is far, far too modern for me to comfortably or confidently tackle. I said we've been considering it, and I may end up doing it at some point, but it would be exponentially more complicated than even my Hong Kong and Ukraine videos which were already some of the most loaded and emotionally draining I've ever made. And that's before the comments section erupts into an inevitable firestorm from each side, I get accused of milking a tragedy for views, and the video gets demonetized for content about mass tragedy *anyway*. There is truly no winning for us. That's why we focused on fundraising early on, so that we could still make a positive impact whether or not we ever made a video on it. I hope that answered your question. -B

Sorry to be that person, but considering he did a video on Ukraine, do you think Blue could consider do one on Palestine? The media here in the West is blatantly ignoring the genocide that’s going on (which might explain why you haven’t done one) and it would very much help to have a fundraiser video on Palestine, considering there’s a terrible history between it and Israel.
