Trope Talk: Welcome to Super School!

I never take it for granted, or at the very least, think about it a lot. High school was 98% lows for me; it was a thoroughly miserable experience full of stress, sensory overloads, expectations, and intense daily frustration at the futility and uselessness of it all. It genuinely felt like being in a cage, or even a prison. I read somewhere that most schools aren't for learning, they're for conforming, and I still think that's true. The only thing I liked were three teachers who actually respected me and understood me instead of trying to force me to be a certain way, and art class, which I thrived at. Yet I still hope for a future in which children can have all their basic physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs met and beyond, and truly feel safe, secure, and protected while learning what they want to learn. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but it's what I always wished for, back then.

Watching this really made me think about just how horrible most Western-style schools really are for children, and how scary it is that everyone (including me) tends to just kinda take this for granted. Like, gee I wonder what it says about (for example) the USA that the 'super schools' we come up with almost ALWAYS feature horrible classism, supervillain bullies who flaunt their power, cackling teachers who scheme to subvert justice, absurdly unfair entrance exams, and a looming threat in the outside world that our protagonists are completely unprepared for. I wonder...

Yeah, Fire Emblem: Three Houses (during the school arc) actually goes right from big dance to school under siege. Fun time!
