Progress Update: 8/25/20

I knew that this script would be long, but I didn't suspect how long when I began it. I aim to finish the script some time in the next week, but by the time I do, it seems likely that it will be novella-length (>17,000 words), and the information contained in it is remarkably thick. As the script stands now, it's at 11,000 words, but the most difficult sections are finished.

Part of the reason it's taking longer than usual is that the topic is particularly specialized, and this makes it difficult for a layperson such as myself to understand it easily and even more difficult to describe it without making significant errors or oversights. Topics such as Wings of Redemption may be complicated, but they are easy to understand once all of the requisite knowledge is discovered; in contrast, this topic still challenges my comprehension even when I have all of the knowledge I need.  Therefore, I have to be more meticulous, but I think it's time well-spent. Those to whom I've read the script have consistently told me that they are gripped by the narrative despite the dry subject matter, which gives me hope that you all will also find it enjoyable. But then again, I thought that the Austrian Wine Poisoning was a rather dry subject (no pun intended) that would lose people after the first five minutes, but you all stuck around through a description of the Austrian wine industry in the 70s and early 80s, so perhaps my concerns are unfounded.

In my last progress update, I mentioned that I would likely suspend Patreon for next month as I take time to work on a personal project, but I received many comments urging me against this, likening it to a paid vacation. And so, when the time comes, I am strongly considering making a poll to gauge what you all would prefer. However, I still am leaning towards suspending the pledges so as not to upset those who would be frustrated if I were to spend a significant amount of time making creative works besides Down the Rabbit Hole, and so I will likely set the threshold quite high so that an overwhelming majority would be required for me to collect for that month. (While there may come a time in the distant future where this Patreon will be used to support other, perhaps similar works, now is not that time)

Thank you all for being so patient with me as I work on this video. It's been difficult due to personal events that I'd rather not share just yet, but it's heartening knowing that you all are so supportive. I hope I can prove again next month that your support is well-placed.

you better let me keep paying you

I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say that I'm on the edge of my seat for this, but waiting an extra month or even two for a video that you're happy with and having been made with a happy Frederik, is absolutely worth it. Your ability to make on the surface dry subjects completely absorbing is unparalleled. If this is just going to be a 7 hour video about accountancy practises in post Tito Yugoslavia, I'm convinced that it'd still be utterly engaging in a way that I can't explain. Keep it up ☺️

I stand by what I said last time, but a poll is a fair way to go about it. I have a hunch, however, that most people here would be interested to see your other creative endeavors, outside of DtRH.

I, certainly, would be happy to still chip in while you took a month off. Bills still have to get paid, and on a more selfish note, happy creators make better work. Thus, there's some degree of personal investment, in your creative fulfillment.
