Progress Update 1/1/18:
Added 2018-01-01 20:08:30 +0000 UTCHappy New Year, everyone! And a belated happy holidays.
Progress on the next DtRH continues. Christmas put me a bit behind, since I ended up losing a couple of work days to seeing family and the like. On top of that, the script ended up being much longer than anticipated; where the Time Cube episode had a little less than 5,500 words, the final edit for this script ended up having 6,462. (I know I said 6,200 or so on Twitter, but I ended up adding a bit more)
Saturday was narration day, and it was... interesting. On one hand, it was exciting since I'm using my new microphone! Up until now I've been using a Sennheiser e838, a mic I've had for about ten years now, but I recently upgraded to a Shure Beta 57a. I tend to use stage mics like these for two reasons: the first is it's much less expensive than a big fancy studio mic, and the second is that I don't need a soundproof room, something I just don't have access to. This new mic, however, captures a wider frequency better and is more sensitive, so it allows me to talk quieter and get a new tone out of my voice. on top of that, I've gotten better at preventing popping during recording, so it allowed me to get a lot closer to the mic. What this means is that my narration will sound richer and fuller from now on!
However, Saturday was also a race against time, because I could feel myself getting a cold while I was recording. Over the course of about five hours I was able to get all 40 minutes of narration done, but the cold ended up being worse than I expected and yesterday I was completely out of commission. I spent almost all day in bed. Today I'm not feeling much better, but I'm going to see if I can get at least a little bit of work done. Hopefully I'll be on the up-and-up by tomorrow so I can finish this episode up this week. Unfortunately, this probably means the next episode will have to come out next week instead. I know this one has taken longer than any so far, but I think it'll be worth it. I don't think the editing will take very long, since there's so much video and so many pictures surrounding this topic that is nicely categorized.
Also good news: this next episode might have a timeline of events in it! It's something I've been wanting to do for a while, and now I've got a graphic designer on board who'll be doing that. It may or may not happen for this next episode, but it'll be there for every episode after that at least.
Thanks so much for sticking with me, everyone. Here's to a 2018 filled with weird stuff.
