Sometimes living in a place long enough can dull you to all of the wonders that surround you, ever had that situation where someone comes to visit you from out of town and that's the only time you visit the "cool" and interesting places around your area?
Well similarly here in Shenzhen I know the city extremely well and know all sorts of interesting areas and places but rarely visit them. By interesting and cool, I mean the bits past the fancy malls and skyscrapers, the urban villages, the vibrant, neon-lit nightlife of every day that is only a short walk away or in some cases an hour or more on the metro!
I want to show more of these areas and more of how daily life is for the majority of people here in China in my videos, and I try to sneak in as much B-roll (I'm sure you notice in my videos when I talk about something I like to cut away to scenes of people or things) as possible. I go on B-roll walks and they're more like an adventure than anything else! I love exploring back alleys, residential areas and little known areas of the city in order to capture glimpses of what life is really like in China. In fact I got C-milk to join me for a whole day of B-roll exploration a few weeks ago. I am getting lots of good stuff and I can't wait to show you all.
Can't wait to see you in the next video! (oh and if you're curious, the picture I snapped here was of a beauty salon worker in a far flung area called ShaJing about an hour and a half away from the downtown area that I live)
- Stay Awesome!
