Asheville and WNC are still suffering and we are not rebuilt yet. We have lost a lot of housing and it seems it will be permanently. AVLDSA chapter is working to organize tenants and form a tenants union, among other things.

One of the things that bridged the gap between my ancom phase to believing we direly need a vanguard party has been the publicโ€™s metabolization of climate change science. One or two reactionaries on TV say โ€œwell snow still exists, and the earth has had climate changes before!!โ€ And suddenly half the US population believes climate change is fake. We need a central body to keep reactionary propaganda at bay, one thousand percent.

VERMONT MENTIONED! But no, seriously, you mentioned Montpellier which is fair cause it's a nice town, but it has been hit HARD by massive flooding the last few years. The thing to keep in mind about mountainous areas is yes, the climate is often better, but if you live on a slope you can get hit hard by erosion and if you live in a valley you can get hit hard by flooding. Best case is to live in a relatively flat area higher up so the water issues happen around you and not to you. Northern New England is beautiful though I highly recommend people visit even if they don't decide to move here. Cost of living is better than in most cities, and infrastructure is better than you might expect for a rural area (I have faster fiber internet than many of my friends who live in cities), but costs have definitely risen the last few years as people have started to figure out that this is a good region to move to.
