I have a similar experience to you and I think it was important for me to go through the radical atheist phase in my teens. Looking back it was cringe but still important for my development

2025-07-25 12:49:10 +0000 UTCI think your takes on atheism could be slightly more comprehensive, although they are sound and based in truth. The thing is, I've been religious for the first 20 years of my life, and it destroyed me. I'm still dealing with intense trouble and suicidality because of it. I really need the closure that "atheism" brings me (in that it is an abrupt depart from my previous toxic beliefs), and the possibility of being a helping hand to someone stuck in the same destructive patterns as I was keeps me going. Strict, dogmatic atheism is not a higher moral position than religion, I agree with that. But atheism built through the materialist critic of religion and what it does to people seems healthy to me. I know it has helped in my particular case.
