This question is even more interesting than I thought. My answer assumes the density of the body as a whole to be smaller than the density of the water in the tub. But if we assume the body to be denser than water the question is trivial with the water overflowing either way. But if we assume body density to be the same as water the distance from the to of the water and the speed of pee discharge become two additional factor and the answers becomes even more complex. If see my physics professors soing this question as an exercise. It is a really cool question, might use it myself.

Hello I do think that when you pee in a pool, assuming no other in or out flows, the water level rises. Imagine your bladder as a glass tube inside a larger glass tube. When the inner tube is emptied (you pee), the outer tube does not change volume. This makes sense intuitively, as you do not see your gut shrinking when you pee. The mass is the same, but because some of that mass fluctuation is enveloped in a fixed volume, the exterior volume should increase (pee make pool go up) At the very least, if your body is conforming to the volume of liquid in your bladder, it is not a perfect 1:1 volume change. So no matter what the total volume in the pool will increase at least a little. I am a chemical engineer but don’t let that fool you, I am a dumbass and I could be completely wrong

Okay stupid physics rant: If something swims it displaced the amount of water that has the same weight as them. For icebergs the equation would be easier if it weren't salty. Salt increases the density of water! So the more Salt is in there the heavier it is, since most icebergs are made of fresh water or have lower salt content they increase overall water levels, but decrease salinity. Here waterβ‰ water which makes things pretty annoying if they have the same salinity though nothing would happen/sea levels would NOT rise! Now ro the tub question, if your friend floats (without moving!) and not part of him touches the walls or floor, and then pisses into the tub, there are three scenarios. One, the piss is less dense then water, he would rise, bit not enough to offset the volume of the piss and the tub overflows. Two, the piss has the same density as the water, nothing happens the dude rises enough ro offset the piss. Three, the piss is more dense then the water, the dude goes up more than the the piss fills up again so the tub is not filled to the brim at the end. So here the question for Hakim, how dense is piss? Which of the three scenarios actually happens. And can you control the density of your own piss?! At last a small disclaimer, since the body is not perfect a perfect system in many ways, experiments would need to be done. For this I would read the comment under the video version of the podcastπŸ˜‰

Answering the pee in water question and the iceberg question. It is proofen, that if icebergs meld, the sea levels rise. I feel like the pee in tube situation is much easier to understand. when you pee in tha tube you will notice that your are still on the bottom of the tube and havent risen due to the fact that piss came out. Also there is no water entering your urethra after peeing, as Hakim so astutely noted. therefore the water will rise after you piss in the tube and overflow if it was filled to the brim before.

If the only thing in the vat were the bladder, and it urinated, the bladder doesn't dimish or disappear. So now there is more volume in the vat.

Mother of God Hakim needs to make an album of revolutionary songs.

I just wanted to share that I have a great uncle named Dick Smull. He actually died last week so I feel a little bad outing him, but he did have 90+ years to contemplate that rather bold choice.

I was JUST worrying about JT and his family again. * Lol * Come to Michigan! We need the purification against all these Trump country, Jesus billboard rural/semi-rural areas. Although I have seen a couple of lunatic houses in the city with a bunch of b******* on them. * Lol *

Isn't there like a train or anything from Hartford to NYC?

If the guy in the vat pisses, his bladder doesn't suddenly inflate with new water, so it's just water moving around in the vat, so the volume doesn't change, right?

43:00 Have y'all seen the video where the lady is like "they have staples at Staples" and the guy looks at the BJ's sign and runs inside. Later, "they have BJs and BJ's!!" And then the lady looks at the Dick's sign and smirks and goes inside 🀣
